A thought for Puppy

Poor puppy getting killed it broke my heart ..:(
It sucks when animals are killed and murdered in movies don't you agree ?

reply

Why did you reveal the part about the puppy? I just bought this movie and now I can't watch it. I can't handle movies where any domestic animals are killed. It's not your fault boromeo. I imagine you saved me some pain and suffering. I guess I should say thanks.......well.........thanks.

reply

*Spoilers* If it helps you don't actually see it being killed...

reply

Also a human gets severely tortured, but that's really not tragic, I know.

reply

News flash. Animals are killed everyday, you can find them at the grocery store.

Yes, but it hurts when they see "A Man's Best Friend" gets killed. A lowly dog or cat, to say the least. To make things feel better for you, how do you feel about Video Games using animals as weapons / enemies and then the Protagonist is forced to kill them? Then again, I felt horribly sad when I saw a dead cat or two in Silent Hill, maybe because it was so graphic.

I remember back when I Am Legend movie came out, a lot of people there were like, "zomg, I'm gunna lyk, ban this movie becuz the dawg gets killed, waaaaa!"

Omg please. I also heard in Snakes On the Plane that they ACUTALLY kill Chihuahuas in there too.

If it makes you feel much better, you see dead cats and dogs on the street as well. Roadkill.

When you say the puppy got killed. Do you mean that a real, live puppy was actually killed for the film? Or there was just a puppy that was "killed" in the movie.

reply

No, an actual puppy wasn't killed in order to film that scene. That stuff rarely happens in movies anymore, which is probably for the better. I know I don't really enjoy seeing animals killed in films (though I can say I don't enjoy seeing people tortured either). It makes it much harder to stomach if you know an actual animal was harmed in the film. Amores Perros is an amazing film, and it's amazing that the dog-fighting scenes looked as real as they do. But apparently, no dogs were harmed during the filming of that one.

reply

Newsflash. Humans are killed every day too, it doesn't mean you want to see animal violence in a film any more than you want to see a snuff movie.

reply

There is no indication the the puppy was killed. It's just lying on the ground - she may have simply used the neural-agent-in-spray on him. Anyway it's easier to hit a dog with a spray than to beat it to death or shoot it. This was the first thing that came to my mind anyway, I didn't think it was dead when I saw it. Hope that helps you see the movie, because it's worth it ;)

reply

SPOILER.

May i suggest that the angle of its head and the (missing) lower jaw might indicate the dogs questionable mortality.

reply

The way you worded that is pretty great :-D

reply

they prolly killed a real puppy, shot the scene, and had a feast afterwards.

reply

Can't stand people like you. You have no problem watching humans get massacred, but as soon as an animal dies you automatically say HELL NO.

reply

And i'm sure those people can't stand peeople like you.
Probably because animals, especially dogs, are more innocent then people and the death of people in films is pretty obvious a big part of a plot, as the animal killings don't necessarily have to be in the movie and it's obvious people are going to die, it's harder for some people to see animals get killed then people, especially in movies where the animal killings are usually never needed but for shock value, while people getting killed it basically a duh moment in a movie specifically a horror movie. A human can usually defend themsevles better then an animal and most of the time, animals are innocent and it's hard to see something that doesn't deserve to be killed, get killed for no good reason. I honestly could care less about people getting killed in movies, It's harder for me to see an animal die and I usually skip the scene, i don't care if that makes me crazy in your eyes.

I agree with you karat0315-1, pets are special, people really don't matter that much.

reply

Although most people won't admit it, they can relate to hatred of another human being, and even empathize with a disillusionment with humanity in general. Animals, which for the most part enjoy the luxury of having their good attributes praised as their responsibility and their bad facets attributed to some external or automatic cause (bad breeding or training, abuse etc.), being killed is not so easy for people to relate to. Paradoxically - it isn't the communicative and social distance we experience from animals that makes this reaction imcomprehensible but precisely what renders it comprehensible.

reply

I'll admit I find animals dying in films much more sad than people dying in films but the thing is I go into the movie knowing that people die as they usually do in horror films. I don't expect to see animals being killed (unless it's Pet Sematary or something like that) so it upsets me more.

reply

I don't know which is more ridiculous: buying a movie you haven't seen or refusing to watch it due to FAKE animal death.

Gangu was so cute.

Gangu was so cute. []

Agreed. Little Beagles are adorable.

BTW, in the movie, he was killed, off-screen. You saw that his head was completely turned around, therefore his little neck was broken.

SPOILER

The Golden Rule of predictable horror: the puppy dies.

If you have problems with animals killed on screen, stay away from Haneke, Jodorowsky, anything called "Mondo" and Italian cannibal movies.

I wouldn't mind getting slaughtered for art's sake though.

Fear is the mother of morality.

reply

Don't read the book then. The dog's death is described in long detail. Mercifully the film kept it to one or two shots after the event.

reply

I would like to add, if you're going to reveal an integral part of a movie, please use the "spoiler" icon option so you don't ruin it for people that haven't seen the movie.

I must say that I will avoid a movie at all most all costs if an animal dies. I couldn't tell you why. But the same, for me, applies to elderly people as well. Like I said, I don't know why, but I just can't take it.

On a side note, strazdamonas, why do you watch movies? I like to feel emotionally attached to characters, so if something happens them, I feel for them. I have cried over many fictional characters' deaths. As well as felt hatred for a specific character, so on and so forth. That, for me, is what makes a movie good. Being able to connect with a character is what I look forward to in any movie I decide to watch. Except for horror films, because I know that I will have NO emotional attachment to any of the characters. But that's okay, because if the horror movie is good, I get to feel another great emotion: Fear.

reply

A good horror movie will make you feel for the characters. there are only few of them. trust me, ive seen almost 500. there are many reasons why i watch a movie, and it depends on a mood. conencting with characters is a must if the film wants you to get involved at any emptional level. however animals are no exceptions to cuasualities. why should an animals fictional death be of mroe value than a humans fictional death?

reply

I feel so sad when animals die in movies, people not so much.

reply

I get really sad over animals' deaths in movies also, particularly Gangu, who was adorable with his floppy ears and wagging tail. Animals are generally blameless in horror films, while humans die because of their actions. The father's death here was certainly unwarranted, but the beagle's even more so.

reply

I don't like to see innocent friendly animals get killed or children and babies. The same applies to men and women I care about or like in the movie. I liked the dad as much as the dog and hated them getting harmed.

So people shouldn't assume that all people that show pity and compassion for the animals don't feel the same for human beings. It's just that, like babies, the animals are usually just as helpless and the casualties of someone else's decisions.

But the minute I saw the dog i knew he was going to get killed or tortured. I thought the same was going to happen to the son or the maid since they were so nice.

reply

All 5 seconds of seeing a fake as hell dog lying there?

Seriously?

This isn't a joke right....?
