The TV series ruled the earth in the 80s

They made a 3D movie, that was a compilation of some episodes of the TV series, but NEVER got to the exciment of the series. The music, the jokes, the action, the sexy girls...this show had averything.

It is sad that the only thing you see here in the U.S. is the freaking 3D movie. They should put out the TV series on DVD.

reply

The movie wasn't compiled from the series, it was a pretty broad retelling of the first third of the story (the most popular part, the triplet saga).

I'd love to bring the series over, but they want more money than I have and since I'm not in the industry, nobody would want to fork over the cash.

reply

Yeah, this is one of the best animated series period. On top of the great story/action sequences, the art and animation were also just insanely high quality for a 1982 tv series(The same team would outdo themselves considerably with The Mighty Orbots. Shame that show was mediocre but with those visuals I would have liked to have seen it go past it's initial 13 episodes).

The Cobra tv series has finally got one of those HK DVD releases recently. It's clearly come from a VHS source though they're are apparently from official released Jap. vhs tapes and not old tv recordings or anything. Shame it's the only way to see the show on DVD with English subs.

reply

And that subtitle is plain disgrace to this series.
Those smugglers can't make it right.
I kinda thought of correcting the subs myself though...

I saw this when i was a kid in the eighties, dubbed to swedish...Thought it was great then and i still do. I know that they've released the complete series on a limited edition box in Japan and France called the Turtle box. If you want to check it out here is a link to a french Cobra site with pictures

http://www.cobraworld.net/anime/dvd.php?dvd=4 (Sorry don't know how to make it clickable)

Too bad it does not have any english subtitles. I've also found another version on...

www.meganimedvd.com

This one appears to have english subtitles though i do not know the quality of the picture or sound. It says it's the complete series, anybody got more info on that dvd set?

reply

Yeah the DVD set Meganimedvd has the entire series and the English pilot from when they tried to bring it to America. Video quality is ok. It clearly came from VHS tapes but still looks pretty good. Subs are rather messy but could have been much worse. Unless you download the fansubs, it's your best bet for watching Cobra with English subs.

reply

I've only just learned of this. I'll see if i can find clips on youtube or if it's available on Netflix.
