Who the heck would cry for this movie?
Don't get me wrong, I think it's a good movie. I just think they over did it with the innocence angle. You see this girl when she's young try so hard for this guy to notice her and when he leaves he doesn't really give any reassurance he's that much into her other than you look cute in red and here is a plastic hair pin.
The movie hardly shows any dialogue between them. Can they at least take a walk together and talk about something to get to know one another? I'm sure that kinda of stuff went on in China during the 50's & 60's.
Maybe because I'm American and we're just naturally cynical, but since she made it known she was totally into him, and since she was the prettiest girl in the village, it seemed like he gave her that present so she could still be dreaming of him until he gets back. Kind of like how a solider gives his girl an engagement ring so she doesn't mess around while he's away at war.
I couldn't even tear up when she fell down the hill and dropped her dumplings.. Yes it was sad.. but come on.. she was trying too hard.. Not to mention she ran 10 miles like a penguin without breaking a sweat..
Even when she was old and wanting to sew.. being unreasonable with the towns people about carrying back the body, it showed she was sorta a drama queen.
So for all the people on this board who said they crying buckets of tears.. during which parts specifically? and how is that possible?
We created the missionary position. ... You're welcome!
