Find me if you love me

I love this movie. I've seen it so many times. It's a strange movie. The first few times I watched it I got caught up in the story of Mardar and Moudan because it's such a wonderful story. But the movie isn't even about Mardar and Moudan. The movie is all about Meimei. The story of Mardar and Moudan enchanted me just as it did Meimei. It fooled me; it tricked me, just as it did Meimei. That's what is so awesome about this film. Meimei wasn't just in love with Mardar. She was in love with his love for Moudan. And she was in love with his love story.

Yeah
How vibrant the Chinese film industry is, and has been for some time now
and it's always good to see that you don't need million$$ to make a good movie.

P.S. Apart from anything else, I much enjoyed the (sight-seeing) "ride" through Shanghai.

Oh yes. So true. The Chinese film industry is underrated.
Not everything is gold, but their love stories are usually great.
Very intense, melancholic and with women that are feminine as well as independent. The contrast with Shanghai's day to day tough reality makes it all the more amazing.

If you like seeing Shanghai in the film you'll love the documentary about Shanghai, also directed by Lou Ye that was included on the 'Su Zhou He' DVD. I cant remember the name of it off the top of my head, but all the narration is from the viewpoint of the director himself and is filmed in a style similar to the opening sequence of the film. Very interesting and a pleasure to watch.

Yeah its a great film... probably best not to reveal twists of movies on boards incase some people havent seen the film and want to. Or at least spoiler warning your post.

I heard at a showing once that this film was an homage to M.Antonioni's Chung Kuo or at least a part of it, at least in the way it depicts the river ppl.

IF Suzhou He is a homage, then there is no doubt: It's a homage to Alfred Hitchock's "Vertigo".

I really liked Suzhou He, it doesn't dig as deep in the psychological aspects of the main characters as Vertigo does, but it feels more relaxed, magical, romantic.
I am not saying it's better than Vertigo, It is not. However it's a beautiful little film that I've enjoyed a lot.
Better than Purple Butterfly without any doubt. I have yet to see Summer Palace, though
