I remember watching a DVD years ago with a lot of differant animation shorts on them, it was the first time I saw Rejected I also remember there was a short about a blue bird who buys a gun (I believe the bird killed himself)
I am sure that the DVD in question was not the animation show (I just bought both volumes but I havent watched it all the way through)
Does anyone know what DVD this is or what the short is called with the little blue bird?
I wonder if the DVD you were watching was from one of the "Spike & Mike Twisted Animation Festivals." I went to a Portland (OR) showing a while back (which included "Rejected") and though I don't personally recall a depressed bluebird short, that would be right up their alley. :)

I think the bird was from a TV Funhouse animation if I recall. It's a bird that collects nut's for a squirrel, and then buy's whisky until it can afford a gun and proceeds to shoot itself.
I cant find any links to where it can be found though, and it's been a long time since I've seen it myself.

that blue bird cartoon isn't on any of the bitterfilm dvd's
Rejected is on a Spike and Mike's DVD, though it isn't the finished DVD master as the Rejected DVD is. The cartoon with the bird that kills himself is I do believe called 'Maakies' and is an animation of the same comic strip.
