Privateer to run in Win95, 98, SE, ME

Someone came out with a new enabler for Privateer to allow you to play this game in Windows! His page is here http://www.wcnews.com/news/showupdate.php?id=5011

it also has support for disk and CD versions of Privateer, Righteous Fire, Armada, and Proving Grounds and Strike Commander.

The original should work all versions of 9x since they are built upon DOS which "Privateer" requires. No "enabler" should be necessary. Especially since there are directions for 9x in the "Privateer" package.

However, if you should have trouble running it, by all means, give the enabler a try.

Well it most definitely works for XP, and there were some EMM (Extended Memory) issues and other dos related device problems that I personally ran into that blocked me from using a boot disk anymore.

I am glad that the community still enjoys this game as much as I do.

Wrong. All the directions are for is for creating a boot shortcut that restarts your PC in dosmode, which is a pain in the ass

Privateer has some wierd proprietary memmory management software that doesn't allow it to work in win9x. If you want to run privateer properly in win9x with sound and everything you need to download myjemm from www.wcnews.com

To run privateer in winxp you pretty much need to download Dosbox and it should be fairly straight forward to get it running from there. If you have any questions about that there's a dosbox walkthrough for Privater at WCnews
