Political colors

Has anyone else noticed the irony that in the '50s to be "Red" was to be a Communist or at least Left-Wing. Today, to be "Red" is to be a Republican...and the redder, the more Right-Wing.

Funny. Somehow, I think being Republican meant something similar to Nixon, McCarthy and Citizen Roy as it does to the Bush people.

The only reason Red is now identified with the GOP is the 2000 election. All the nets used Red for the GOP states that year. While I'm not positive, I think they used to use blue for the incumbent party and red for the party out of office.

Now it's so ingrained in our consciousness that it will probably always be.

Internationally, red is usually used to identify the more liberal party.
