Best cartoon ever?

What do you think, could this cartoon be crowned as the best of the USSR?

reply

Yeah, it's the best!
But man what they did in the last episodes?!?
All the advertising (AMT, Nokia, VODKA???Troyka and than in this supermarket), new "fancy" look of Wolf and Hare, and the stories- well...
I'm sorry, but it's just awful what they did to this cartoon.
I LOVE the old episodes though.

reply

I haven't seen new episodes and as it seems I should be happy for that...but I love OLD EPISODES!!!! I remember when I was about 7,8 years, we watched them with the whole class once in a month or something....aww...memories...
Inside every one of us is a special talent waiting to come out.The trick is finding it.

Haha, I just saw this cartoon for the first time in my Russian class this weekend. Our professor was playing a DVD with all the episodes on it. I downloaded some off of the internet. They're actually very well thought out and I can assume are very entertaining to children!
'Çàÿö! Íó... ïîãîäè!!' :-DDD

What are some other good Russian TV shows?

It's certainly the most popular, but as for "best"? That depends on the individual, of course. A lot of cartoons aren't as well known as they should be.

The "best" ones that I've seen include a lot of Yuri Norstein's work ("Tale of Tales", "Hedgehog in the Fog" - Skazka Skazok, Yozhik v Tumane). Here are some really nice ones that I like also (links, go to videos! Yay!):

My Life (a little piglet talks about his life on the farm; won a prize in an international animation festival in Anneci, France for funniest film in 2001)
http://www.seti.ee/portal/modules/news/article.php?storyid=8739

Last Year's Snow was Falling (a satire on Russian fairy tales where a simple peasant dreams about becoming a king)
http://www.seti.ee/portal/modules/news/article.php?storyid=8825

Kolobki Brothers Conduct an Investigation
http://www.seti.ee/portal/modules/news/article.php?storyid=11001

The Pilot Brothers Decided Suddenly to Go Hunting (dialogue translation - "will we first hunt and then have breakfast, or first have breakfast and then hunt?" "no, colleague, I think we will do both at the same time " "at the same time... check!" and the rest speaks for itself. The last thing said is "you know, colleague, let's go and catch some fish rather")
http://www.seti.ee/portal/modules/news/article.php?storyid=8963

The Pilot Brothers Sometimes Go Fishing (translation - "you must agree, colleague, that this is rather more interesting than catching fish from an aquarium" "oh, don't say that chief, catching fish at the aquarium is rather interesting also" ... and the Frenchman who shows up later says something like "this lake is not shallow! I require humanitarian help!")

As far as I know, none of these have a page on IMDB.

Yes, I'd agree with you about 'Hedgehog in the fog' being better, but as far as funny Russian animation is concerned, what about 'Vinni Puch'? They showed an episode of it in a series of Russian animation at a local cinema and it was a scream!

reply

This is definately the best Russian cartoon and most definately the best "cat and mouse" cartoon. I like it much, much, much better than Bugs Bunny, Nu Pagodi was ten times funnier.

Hi, maria. Thanks!

Namaste, and good luck.

You're welcome.

§ Pluto is a planet.

It means "I'll get you..." or "Just Wait..." in a sense like in the "Honeymooners" where Al says "one of these days ....."

Yeah this cartoon is awesome!
Do any of you know the name of the tune that plays at the very end of the last episode? The very end when Zaits straps Volk onto the spinning machine thingy? I love that song!

reply

I believe you're referring to Episode 18..it's not technically the last episode since 19 and 20 were made (they're on Youtube now..you can find some of the links in the other post that I started), but the song you're looking for is:

"Hafanana", which is by Afric Simone, or at least the version that was used in the episode.

I'm also looking for a few tracks myself. I want to know which tracks play in:

Episode #3 when Volk is using the crane to lift the hare and attempts to put barrels up and climb them to reach it. It's into the episode 6:00 out of 10:00.

you can tell episode 3 is my favorite overall. Kalinka in the end was the best part to me in the whole series.

This cartoon is the best one I've ever seen that is not an anime. I feel it's a few billion times better than Looney Tunes type stuff and all the other American ones like Tom and Jerry. I also feel that the music is a heavy contributing factor in the greatness of this series. Minus the last two episodes in the 2000's for having lame music, the rest was by far phenomenal. I also feel that Volk as a character was extremely awesome; wolves happen to be my favorite animals on earth.

I think it's fair to consider it among the best Soviet cartoons. Variety of themes, humour, solid level of animation and, of course, the huge popularity among generations of kids and adults - they sure hit the spot.

Though my personal favourites are Mystery of the Third Planet, Adventures of Captain Vrungel, Mowgli, Treasure Island, Karlson on the Roof, Adventures of Domovoi, Last Year's Snow was Falling.

I also wouldn't compare them to "art house toons", like those by Norstein or Maximov. They are from a different league, same as art films.

reply

Absolutely not. It is a lot of fun though. A crowd-pleaser and many of the episodes are classics (the Soviet ones).

reply

It's my favourite, looking back abour 13 years, i still remeber ALOT of it :)
