Why Reloaded is my Fav of the Three

Granted, the first is the best film and one of the best sci-fi films ever made.

But I just gravitated towards part 2 more. It really pushed the story into unexpected ways and the action was unlike anything seen before or after.

I guess I am in the extreme minority.

Though it failed to make as big of an impression as its predecessor did (the original's cultural impact being naturally hard to match notwithstanding), I always felt Reloaded had so much going for it, e.g., direction, stellar cinematography, first-rate action sequences, a marvelous epic feel, and perhaps even intrigue. Ultimately it could have been so much better in terms of story line, character development and creativity, but... I dare say it's a worthy sequel.

You want something corny? You got it!

You brain dead idiots would never watch a film if it didn't have childish action scenes, grow the hell up

It's the fanboys, they control cinema now.

I'm in the extreme minority too. I just don't understand why so many people shit on this movie.

Same boat here, used to love the original the most, no questions asked, but over 2 decades I have also moved towards enjoying Reloaded the most. The music, the atmosphere, the dialogue, set pieces, graphics, characters, locations, everything about it has survived the test of time.

I just watch one of the many explanation videos on this reloaded and it was rushed because the first one had the story and was a huge hit. This one gave us our fix and some good and bad visual effects and was being made when 911 happened.

The studios cashed in and everyone got their fix.

I’d have to agree. Matrix Reloaded is my favorite of the three, and a good example of subversion done right.

It’s a shame the Wachowski’s didn’t know what to do with this amazing set up for the third movie, and essentially wrote themselves into a corner because of it.

I think they basically went, "What did people love about the first one...?" and came up with, "Philosophy and kung fu!" so they crank both up to 11, nevermind the story. Never mind that the first one is great because the kung fu scene illustrates the philosophy. Never mind that the first one has universally-applicable themes of freeing your mind. Never mind that the first one was equal parts Alice in Wonderland and biography of Christ. They replaced all that with alternating kung fu and philosophy scenes, just dumped one after the other.

They also went, "How do we top bullet time?" and forgot that bullet time was itself an answer to how to depict the stretching of time as Neo goes deeper into his powers.

In short, nothing was motivated by story anymore, it was all just them throwing everything they thought was "awesome" about the first one into a cauldron and stirring it up.

I didn't hate Reloaded, it just paled (a LOT) in comparison to The Matrix, and I think the biggest disappointment (for me) with the subsequent films has been the lack of follow-through on the part of the Wachowskis to create something else monumental. I did really like Cloud Atlas, but that was co-directed by Tom Tykwer.

Me too. No explanation necessary. Although I was bummed they paid off those vampires and werewolves.
