and

"From the hot fire of being apart comes the flame that burns the heart"

Hi fulan,

I loved that poetry, also. In Farsi, is says (written as phonetically as possible):

in sholeye mehrabaanist
az aatashe garme jodaaist

Which, to the best of my knowledge, translates as:

This is a spark of kindness
From the warm fire of separation

It's lovely, isn't it? I've asked around, but it doesn't seem to be from any famous poet (that my friends know of, anyway).

To whom it may concern: an impressing recitation of some beautiful poetry in farsi can be heard in Abbas Kiarostami's "The wind will carry us", named after a poem itself.

My DVD subtitled also read:

"From the hot fire of being apart comes the flame that burns the heart".

You can understand why Lateef smiled after that comment. :)
