Parents Ratings should show this as 'R' film

While I think this was (in many ways) a quality documentary, I could not get into the Parents Ratings to note that there are a couple scenes which make it unsuitable for children.

Some partly nude scenes of Jessica Hahn are shown and a sexual device is shown (though it is not overt).

It had her nipples, twice I believe, which would qualify if for an R rating, regardless of the fact that they were seen through lingerie, they were still pretty visible.

I don't think this doc was made for family viewing. While it's about a woman who was a prominent evangelist, the folks who made the movie are well known gay filmmakers which puts a spin on the film that would not normally be appreciated by your average church going family.

I just got through watching the movie. I think I might have seen it when it first came out. The puppets looked familiar, but I think I'm seeing it with fresh eyes.

In my opinion, PG-13 is an appropriate rating, and R would be much too restrictive.

I generally look at how Canada rates films as well. Their rating systems are a little different, but I think they're helpful in determining where the film might fall within the MPAA rating. Here's what I found: Ontario--PG; Manitoba--PG (controversial subject matter); Quebec--G. That's pretty tame. Quebec is often lenient, but I would have expected at least one of the others to have given it a 14A (under 14 must be accompanied).

However, your post has served a good purpose. It called attention to some clips that might make a difference to some potential viewers. (BTW, the "sexual device" is a penile implant. It's not objectionable in the same way as a sex toy might be.)
