I am sick and tired of new alien movies comming out, and then we come to find out, that the aliens ARE God, and the movie supports the theory of evolution, I just want a plain and simple alien movie, like Lifeform, or Alien, or Xtro, yeah, remember those days???? Well too bad, those have been taken over by movies like Mission to Mars and Epoch.
Actually it doesn't even mention evolution, nor does it imply anything. And evolution is a scientific fact supported by the vast majority of the scientific community. The only mavericks who oppose it are creationists and intelligent designers, both of which are religious ideas.
The difference between a theory in general terms and a scientific theory because the word "theory," is used differently by scientists in contrast to a lay person. In everyday terms, the word "theory" means speculation or opinion. In science however, theories are proven hypothesis that have been verified by other sources. Furthermore, the only difference between a scientific theory and scientific law is that laws are principles that describe the fundamental nature of an event, and governs a single action. Theory, on the other hand, is essentially more complex and describes the actions and workings of the event. Therefore, a phenomenon such as gravity is described through "Newton's Theory of Universal Gravitation" and "Einstein's Theory of Relativity."
Actually, the scientific Theory is based around the scientific hypothesis. If that Theory is disproven, it ceases to be. If the Theory is proven, however, it becomes a Law. The very definition of Theory tells us this. Look it up. A scientific Theory essentially is that scientific hypothesis. According to Webster a Theory is 1 : the analysis of a set of facts in their relation to one another 2 : abstract thought : speculation 3 : the general or abstract principles of a body of fact, a science, or an art <music theory> 4 a : a belief, policy, or procedure proposed or followed as the basis of action <her method is based on the theory that all children want to learn> b : an ideal or hypothetical set of facts, principles, or circumstances —often used in the phrase in theory <in theory, we have always advocated freedom for all> 5 : a plausible or scientifically acceptable general principle or body of principles offered to explain phenomena <the wave theory of light> 6 a : a hypothesis assumed for the sake of argument or investigation b : an unproved assumption : conjecture c : a body of theorems presenting a concise systematic view of a subject <theory of equations> synonyms see hypothesis
Notice that a Theory IS the hypothesis. Once it is disproven, it ceases to be. Once it is proven, it becomes a scientific Law. This is a basic scientific fact that children learn in elementary school for crying out loud.
Theories never "disappear", their probabilities become vanishingly small. Once Man articulates a theory, it will always exist. Most will never be heard from again unless someone revives it with new data. Many will be recorded in libraries etc. Some, the robust few, will survive, very few becoming dogma, others struggle long against competing hypotheses. Its all very Darwinian.

Yes. About half way through, right after Rand learns his ALS has disappeared. Lysander comes into the med tent. Czaban states that radioactive dating puts the age of the Torus at least 4 billion years and that it may have been the original catylist for the begining of life on Earth. Rand goes on to talk about unexplained stages of evolution with "jumps in the development of certain species", which I take to be a reference to punctuated equilibrium.

Have you SEEN this movie? Well, i have just seen it (because the DVD was attached to a magazine). 1. Of course it's about evolution, that's the whole point. The DVD cover even says "Where evolution began ..." 2. No, it doesn't "support the theory of evolution". The theory of evolution doesn't say much about ancient alien machinery shaping the development of life on earth. 3. Even if it would, "theory of evolution" is not some obscure theory that needs a lot of support from B-movies. 4. No, it's not the worst movie ever. But it has some of the worst special effects ever ...

Good point. Ancient alien machinery shaping the development of life on earth would fall more under the category of intelligent design. That is clearly not the intent of the proponents of this "theory". However, the fact that ID is simply creationism with all references to God and Genesis excised in a cynical effort to make it acceptable to teaching in public schools, implies that all kinds of other agents could be substituted for "God", including ancient alien machinery.

by the replies I'd have to say they misunderstood you. Or are too pre-occupied with surfing IMDB mssg boards looking to contradict other people. Problem with geeks and trollers, they cant come up with a unique idea themselves but they sure can critisize one.
I wish they'd do some straight science fiction movies too. I'm sick to death of them introducing some bogus metaphysical rubbish or turning the movie into a horror flick half way through. Give us back the science.
Heck they couldn't even do Avatar without digging deep into the bin of hoary old cliches.
