Coral Snake?

I just could not help laughing while they shoved that King Snake down the guys throat to kill him. For heaven's sake, either paint the King Snake's stripes to match a coral snake, or use a rubber coral snake. It killed the scene for me. Incidentally, a Coral Snake has either white or yellow stripes next to the red. A king has black stripes next to the red.

yeah - you tell 'em...

snakes, huh?

reply

it was a totally unnessesairy scene in my opinion !

Not very pleasant to watch either

reply

Its kind of sad, probably not a fun death. I mean come on, being swollowed whole?! Life sucks for a snake.

reply

It was to show how ruthless the bad guy was

reply

Yeah, that's one of the sickest murders I've ever seen!

Did they ever mention in the movie it was a coral snake?
I don't think it would matter, any snake would have choked the guy to death.

reply

As a snake owner with a strong knowledge of different snakes I was annoyed by that as well. They seems to do that in a lot of movies with other snakes. They use ball pythons a lot which are probably one of the most docile snakes you can find but they are supposed to be this deadly snake. I guess filmakers assume most people aren't going to notice these things so they let it go. Personally I think it is just laziness on their parts. They don't want to go that extra step. But it really bothers me. The only other thing I can think of in that scene is that the guy choked on the snake, but it probably wouldn't happen that fast. Maybe I just think too much into these things.

reply

I also hated this scene. I am not a snake owner, and maybe I am wrong, but a snake is going to avoid a 98 degree wet hole, right? I think they prefer cool and dry.
And eating a snake probably isnt going to kill you, the snake, but not you. Sure, it would be uncomfortable...

Didnt they do this on fear factor? :-P

reply

ever heard of choking

reply

kinda thought the same thing

reply

I agree it would probably kill the snake before it would kill you, but still, wouldn't the guy just vomit the snake up before it got even halfway in? I mean, if I'm sick and I feel like I have to vomit, just my finger will usually set me off. This guy had the gag reflex of a god.

***spoiler alert***

It wouldn't go down the guy's esophogas into his stomach.. it would evade its captors (the guys whose hands were on it) by burrowing itself as deeply as it could into the guy's lungs.. ergo suffocating the guy and/or ripping apart the guy's relatively delicate lung tissue, causing the same effect as suffocation: death.

As for the "gag reflex".. why do you think they shot the scene from the guy's flank? It was so the snake could appear to be shoved down the guy's throat, but harmlessly pass right beyond the left side of the guy's lips.

It did make for a very emotion-provoking scene, though, didn't it?

"They use ball pythons a lot which are probably one of the most docile snakes you can find but they are supposed to be this deadly snake."

Yes, much better to use a real venemous/vicious snake. I'm sure the actors would also agree. sigh.

reply

Well, in today's day and age they have this stuff called special effects in which perhaps they could construct some sort of venomous snake either mechanically or digitally instead of expecting us to just accept that a non-venomous snake is supposed to be a venomous one.

reply

well at least the snake gets a tour of the digestive system!

"The difference is... I'm just going to kill you!"

I also noticed that they used a Scarlett King snake. I remembered the rhyme:

"Red on yellow, kill a fellow
Red on black, venom lack"

reply

I haven't seen this movie and this doesn't really have anything to do with anything...but...

red, yellow, black, whatever - I just avoid snakes in general.....

but that's just me ;)

yeah im not a huge fan of snakes either. I watched some video on www.youtube.com, and it was in like micronesia or one of those crazy european 3rd world countries, anyways it was this little kid riding a HUGE anaconda that apparently was there "family pet" sicne weeks before this kid was born, then out of nowhere u just see the snakes head come from the top of the screen and pretty much swallow the top half of the kid, i freaked the hell out. I literally started shaking. man i hate, snakes. freaky lil buggers

Just a little advice. Do NOT watch this scene while eating spaghetti. I was channel surfing and came across this little gem, immediately gagged at the thought of this, and promptly ended my meal. Gross. Just totally gross.

On the DVD there's a alternative scene to the snake scene, which is alot easier to watch, they should have used that instead but perhaps they wanted to show just how cruel and sadistic these terrorists can be.
Maybe I need to "harden the *beep* up" but I watch films to be entertained, not repulsed!

***spoiler alert***

As totally terrified as I am of all things serpentine, just the part where the guy had a snake in his hands was enough to remind me to be careful about the contents of my bladder.

But, after getting over the initial shock of the scene, I found myself actually on the verge of laughing.. not only because of the king snake coloring, but of the knowledge that although coral snakes are venomous and that their venom, ounce for ounce, is the most deadly venom of any animal in North America, but, my knowledge that a coral snake's venomous fangs are the ones in the rear of it's mouth.. making it quite unlikely for that scene to work out very well if they were going to try to get the snake to bite the guy.

But, that scene worked, and at least for me, it worked quite well..

And, folks.. there are NUMEROUS species of snakes in South America that have the same striping as a King Snake.. and some of them might be venomous, too.

This was supposed to have occurred in Colombia, after all.

Living in FL for almost 17 years now... (yes that's very sad i know...),

A person of any age at least hears the rhymes about coral snakes, (Red over Yellow; kill a fellow... etc) But neither a Coral snake OR a King snake have white on them...

Just pointing that out :-P

There are many species of king snake. Some have white markings, including some California king snakes (which are often red, white, and black striped or just black and white striped).
