Is it me or is this miniserie very similar to Gone with the Wind?
NOt as good offcourse but there are similarities.

He get married and goes off to war. Mysterious man shows up in the girl's life.
She doesn't love him at first but eventually does.

It is funny that you should mention that, because I thought that I was the only who noticed those similarities. I think that this is one of the main factors that prevented me from enjoying this film, as I was constantly comparing it with GWTW. Perhaps I should try watching it again with a blank slate of mind this weekend:)

Not only similar, but a blatant rip-off.

Of course it is "similar." Régine Desforges, the author of the book the TV series was based on, has admitted that she started out to write a modern version of GWTW, but she then pointed out that after the first hundred pages, her characters and what she was trying to say started diverging from her original plan and that she left Mitchell’s novel to write a completely different story. Once the story gets into the occupation period, and Léa starts working for the Resistance, there is in fact very little of Scarlett's story in the plot. Nevertheless, the Margaret Mitchell estate filed a lawsuit against Desforges for copyright infringement in the French courts. (They lost the lawsuit, BTW.)

Although I always managed to understand the class differences between Scarlet and Ashley, I fail to do so in this one. Could someone help me out with this?
