Dear God...

This film sounds like an absolute abomination. Yuck. An insult to the wonderful 1993 film and the wonderful book on which it was based.

Of course they've brought forth juniper berries, they're juniper bushes!

Guess what?
I exist!

Well, have you seen it? Becuase, if you haven't, how can you judge it?

reply

No, I haven't. For all I know it could be great. But I rather suspect that it's not.

Give it a shot. For a while, it was the only thing that would get my kid to sleep. No, you don't need kids to like it, either.

reply

No, quite the contrary, this film is excellent. Maybe not as good at the original, but it's worth seeing.

I can't bring myself to watch this movie. I fell in love with Dickon in the 1993 version and could not bear to see that he died. :(

actuly it is the sequel to the secret garden(1987) a halmark hall of fame tv movie.

reply

I just saw this on TV and I was very confused. I walked in about half way through but from what I understood... the characters from the original story were horribly twisted. I do not approve.

My opinion, don't let it alter your's.

I read the synoposis and thought it an "abomination" also. Then I even wasted two hours of my life watching it when it was shown on tv once.

Dreadful.

Characterisation of Mary and Colin is contorted. Camilla Belle (who I quite like now) was not great. The whole concept was eeeugh. No, wrong. If you're a big fan of the 93 version and of the book then this probably won't sit very well with you.

And I know I'm going to offend someone now but: it's very *American* if you get me. All a bit too shiny.

Actually it is a sequel to the book, and a pretty good one. I expected it to be vapid and thought they did as good a job as one can expect for a sequel.

As others have pointed out, IMDb seems to have made a mistake in listing this film as a sequel to the 1993 The Secret Garden. It is rather a sequel to the 1987 Hallmark film, if any. This is also a Hallmark film.

At any rate, I enjoyed it, but not near as much as the 1993 film.
