i doubt you can make anything remotely as close to the original technically its already in e.e.u.u. Univision is airing a remake for the mexican market and so far ive been watching it quite a bit and it is a big mistake (its still in the going)
to begin with the actress for betty (angela Vale) is doing a horrible, job theres no suspence to see the swan witch made the original such a hit and the rest of the crew is just a bunch of univision (and televisa) lackies like niurka marcos the only one doing a good job are the actors that play ariel and luigi (with are minor) i dont see the reason to repaint the mona liza just so it will be more apealing and the most horrible part about the univision remake is that Univision (in true univision fashion) they put ads for a footwear company (Andrea) integrated into the series (thats infuriating) its bad enough that the story is advancing way to fast, if theyre is a dub release i highly recomend it because part of the magic is seeing how diferent cultures interact but im not looking forward to a e.e.u.u. release myself its just going to be a digested striped down and can u imagine watching a 169 episode show by week (if they follow it line by line) that would take 169 weeks just to give u an idea
but beauty is in the eye of the beholder and plz watch the original colombian if it even is possible

I wonder if the Colombian producers realize what a gem they had in their original Betty?
If they put it out on DVD it would make zillions!

The actress --Ana Maria Orozco---was so beautiful in reality, and yet they were able to make her truly unattractive.
I am not Spanish and had no clue who she was or what she really looked like. So the transformation like a magic show. i loved the Colombian one.
Too bad they did not pick a beautiful but unknown Spanish actress to do the ABC version.
We already know America (the actress) is not beautiful in real life.

Having a beautiful person made ugly is a key-point for the whole plot, since eventually she DOES end up being beautiful, but I think that's where they messed up with America. They did not make her ugly enough, and I highly doubt they'll be able to make her as beautiful as she's supposed to be.

Everytime I watch that mexican copy of Betty La Fea, it makes want to vomit. I hate the way they talk, and the way they just destroyed the whole story. Now I hope that they do not do the same with the USA copy.

The Colombian original is the best!!!

I like "La fea mas Bella" . So far i am hooked on it. But then again I never seen the original, so I dont know.

reply

haha great name, although it would have been funnier if it was a literal translation: "I am Betty, the Ugly" ahahahaha

reply

i agree with all of you, yo soy betty la fea is a better version (of course) i dont really watch the usa version

I think it's funny that so many countries have made their own version

In the Netherlands they're already started on the 2nd season

and there it's called Lotte

and I kind of like it a lot

it's not hysterical or anything

but just very nice to watch

so first have to sit through a few episodes and after that you're hooked

it's doesn't go too slow

and not too fast

it's just great!!!

That is how the Mexican version is!!! I didn't watch it at first when my mom did, but then I started and now I cannot wait for night to come so I can see the newest episode!

My mom saw the original Novela in Telemundo. I would watch it with her here and there and thought it was really funny. Then the second season appeared in Univision which really sucked and it was dropped from there. The Mexican version is probably the closest to the original story. It still maintains the basics that this unattractive woman falls in love with her boss and she ends up owning the company and he pretends to fall in love with her to gain the company back but actually falls for her and the drama continues. Many who have seen the original dislike the Mexican version because although it follows closely to the original it’s not the same cast. The one that people should really feel disgusted with is Ugly Betty which is a complete out of the road remake of the series. I mean I don’t hate the show at all but for those that hate remakes that don’t follow the original plot and story, well Ugly Betty has really taken a completely different path. They also made it as a TV series which airs only one new episode a week appose to 5 new episodes a week. Ugly Betty has a completely different story just an ugly looking chick that is very smart working and helping her boss. That’s the only things that are from the original other than that everything is completely different.

Well I watch the Ugly Betty USA, and when I heard about how the original had 5 episodes a week, I knew before the show started that it wasn't going to be produced that fast. That would be a soap opera and would run during the day (even the prime time soaps only had 1 episode a week). And it's disappointing that it wasn't a more direct copy of the original show, especially since the original isn't available with English subtitles, but at least this way it was totally okay for me come into this board before the show premiered, and not know the whole setup before it even aired.
