zippo and 26

what kind of dinosaurs were they?

reply

In the movie, they sort of say that Zippo was a Stenosaurus. I think they actually meant Stenonychosaurus (A Stenosourus is actually a kind of Jurassic crocodile). The Stenonychosaurus was a small theropod dinosaur from the late Cretaceous period. This sort of dinosaur is noted for probably being very intelligent.

As for 26, they said that she was a Casmosaur; a member of the Hadrosaur family. This does not make sense. Casmosaurs were not Hadrosaurs at all, but Ceratopsids; just like the Triceratops or the Styracosaurus. Indeed, 26 looks like a Casmosaur. So, at least they got that much right. But to say that she was part of the Hadrosaur family suggests to me that the writers of this TV movie didn't do their research and assumed that their viewers would be as ignorant as they were.

I would like to recommend that you read the books authored by James Gurney, if you haven't already. They feature quality images of lesser-known dinosaurs. Mr. Gurney, unlike the producers of this TV movie, puts a decent about of thought and research into his stories.

the whole film was full of unrealistic balls-ups

Zippo is a Troodon and 26 is a Chasmosaurus, which is similar to a Triceratops.
