Old Versus New - The Berenstain Bears (1985) Discussion

I remember the old (since I used to enjoy them so much) and i've seen the new.

While the new is pretty good, the country vibe kinda loses the original feelings I had for the series (even though its kinda appropriate cause they do live in a country....even if it sounds kinda hickish). And I miss the old theme song.

I haven't seen many episodes (just one) but its not that bad, just not as good as the originals were (cause frankly, I miss that old style of animation).

I much prefer the old series, because they're much more appealing. I remember getting some tapes from my parents and watching them a lot of times :) Yeah, I was a big Berenstain Bear fan back when I was a tot. The new series is alright, but doesn't have that charm of the old series (it's more educational and less cartoony). I hear the original series is out on DVD, I'm waiting for this rumor to be confirmed true!

I love the "old" series. The new series is boring, especially with the slow pace and the music.

I agree,the new version is boring and I think that's because it's geared toward an even younger audience than the first one; perhaps pre-school and kindergarten age. The first series had more range.

That's exactly their target audience. The Berenstain Bears (2003 series) was supposed to be made for PBS, which as far as I am concerned, is filled with "educational" and very preachy shows that only preschoolers watched.

While I don't dislike the new series, the old one is FAR better in just about every way. There is just something about the old-fashioned animation style, music, and every other aspect that makes the old episodes special and unbeatable. I'm so happy that I still have at least some of my videos...so much nostalgic love! :*-} I was a Cub Club member and a huge Berenstain fan. Luckily I've still got most of my books...and I mean the original softcovers as well as the hardcovers...right next to all my old "Clifford the Big Red Dog" and other kids' ones.

Old. Everything made in the 1980s including The Berenstain Bears Show, the holiday specials including The Berenstain Bears Christmas Tree...all of these are much older but they are classic cartoons ahead of their time. The Nelvana series resembles a 1950s family sitcom despite it being newer than The Berenstain Bears Show and the specials aired before it.

The old series because the characters were much more lively in the older series than in the new series. The characters in the new series seemed so dull and the new series was a bit too preachy. The old series was preachy too, but not to an extent where it cuts down the entertainment in the show. I also didn't like the way that the new version made Papa Bear more serious, while in the older version, Papa Bear was like the comic relief of the show. The new series was alright, but it wasn't as memorable as the older series.

I must admit a soft spot for sister being Papa's dr when he pretends he is not sick.

Lol I didn't know I replied two times already. But here I go again: I like the "old" series. Or perhaps I should say Original. They did so much with character development and universe expansion, and the new series obliterated it.

The old show was much better. Had a feeling of an old school Saturday morning cartoon while still having good morals to the episodes.

The new show is just a straight up educational cartoon for the youngest of kids.
