Question about the opening race

So this always confuses me. The opening race appears to be a straight drag. Just 4 cars going straight. I don't recall seeing any turns in this race, nor did it look like they did a lap. They all start and race, and say 3 or 4 miles later when they get to the finish line, everyone who was there at the starting line is there waiting for them.

Ummm... what???

Plot hole I say!

I assumed we were experiencing the race from the "passenger seat". The race was a ten second race but inside the driver mind could be forever till they cross the finish line.

You gotta stay in your seats until the Sulaco reaches the terminal!

That still doesn't explain how the crowd got to the end so fast. Also I doubt it was just 10 seconds as Brian had a computer letting him know what stages he was at. You wouldn't use something like that in a 10 second drag.

That entire crowd were meant to be real race professional drivers. Way they chewed up every word that Vin said made them all look like a worse bunch of laughable extras that Ridley Scott himself embarrassingly saw in Gladiator.

Okay "Hollywood Magic" theres your answer.

I know they all want a 10 second car , but the movie surely wasnt implying that was a 10 second race? even tho it might seem a lot longer to the driver.

The pure amount of staring at the nearest car , changing down into (yet another) gear , and nos button pushing , made for a 5 minute race at around 120mph that must have covered 50 miles :)

It makes zero sense.

Lots of things don't make sense about the race scenes. How about the "too soon Junior" remark by Tran when Jessie hit the nitrous button?

I was just thinking the other day how many times i've heard the "too soon Junior" remark

I think all car race/chase directors must use that to show that you have to be incredibly clever to race a car and you dont just put your foot to the floor and hang on.

I heard the same phrase in "ford v ferrari" a few days ago..
