Do families really abandon their gay son?

I just couldn't understand the situation. Why most parents or Dad prefer to leave his son and abandon him that try to understand him?

Like, if i have a son and turns out to be gay. i will just hug him tight so he can feel he is not different from me or anyone.

You think the parents will really do this thing to their kids just only because he is gay?
