Chemistry!

Love Laurent or hate him (and I loved him and his beautiful paleness and crookedy front teeth), you can't deny that he and Cedric definitely had chemistry! In fact, they're one of the more convincing gay couples portrayed in movies, just because of the chemistry between the two actors/characters.

Some other gay movie couples that had a *lot* of chemistry:

Jamie and Ste from 'Beautiful Thing' - you can tell these two actors knew and liked each other in real life, because that relationship definitely comes across very well on film. They blazed with chemistry, even though their film relationship was more on the sweet/cute side, than hot/passionate. But then again, they were only 15/16 years old, and the Brits do tend to be more reserved about that kind of thing.

Maurice and Alec from 'Maurice' - one of my all-time favorite movies. These two had so much chemistry, it's not even funny. But then again, Rupert Graves (Alec Scudder) is smoldering hot no matter what role he's in. It's funny that the actors had never met before, and their romantic scenes were filmed only days into the movie's filming. It's a testament to the Merchant/Ivory production/direction team, and the awesomeness of James Wilby and Rupert Graves, that these two had so much chemistry.

Tim and Theo from "Clapham Junction" - what is it about the Brits, who normally are stereotyped as so reserved, that make such awesome gay-themed movies? This one is a very tense drama, but the scenes between Luke Treadaway (Theo) and Joseph Mawle (Tim) just burn up the screen.

Christopher and Caspar from "Christopher and his Kind" - the awesome Matt Smith burned up the screen with Alexander Doetsch. Just go to YouTube and see what I mean.

I've seen a number of gay-themed movies where the actors didn't seem to have that much chemistry: Zach/Shaun from Shelter, Nathan/Roy from Dream Boy.

Interesting how British and French gay films have different chemistry.

The French guys seem to start more volatile and passionate relationships...
... the British guys enter a relationship more slowly and quietly, a bit like in Asian gay films.

Definitely agree with you there. At first I thought the scene where they were making out after "getting a drink" would be too quick and rushed but I totally bought that they were already really into each other. The way they look at each other made it even more obvious. Really great casting here. I also agree on Beautiful Thing. Those two literally made me think that they were real teenagers in love instead of watching two actors pretending to have chemistry. I also will add Sieger and Marc from Boys. I love that movie so much and the two leads work so well together. The scene with them on the beach never fails to make me start tearing up.
