this movie annoyed me in so many ways

The acting was horrible. I'm a cutter/burner and I realize I can't speak for other self-harmers, but I just thought it was way too melodramatic and unrealistic, even for the Lifetime network. It had it's rare moments, but I felt as if the actors had absolutely no idea this issue even existed before they got the script for this film, so they googled it, read some facts off of wikipedia and took all their acting cues from that. Some of Dawn's actions and reactions to certain things just confused me or made me roll my eyes.

If you liked this movie, fine. You're entitled to your opinion just like I'm entitled to mine. So please don't clutter up my inbox with stupid responses about how I'm dumb and don't know anything just because I didn't like the film. Please only respond if you have a comment with substance.

I agree with the part about most of the actors not knowing much about cutting before the movie. Parts of it were pretty dramatic and overplayed, but that's just me.

reply

True, but I guess you get that with every Lifetime movie. Except maybe "Normal Adolescent Behavior." I thought that one was pretty decent... but that's a whole different forum.

Except this was a USA Network movie, not a lifetime movie.

reply

Oh... well, then, shame on you USA. Please stick to the crime comedies like Monk & Psych that you do so wonderfully and don't attempt dramas such as this. =)

That is correct. Also, Wikipedia did not exist in the year 2000.

You laugh at me because I'm different. I laugh at you because you're all the same.

During the scene where she burns her arm in the car and then looks at her mother, her facial expression was really really odd. I understand she'd feel a slight endorphin rush, but really? She looked like she was high.

That's very true... It was mostly the acting that annoyed me, but honestly the film/ content itself was just so predictable that it didn't give the actors much to work with. If you have a crappy actor, you better at least have a good script, and if you have a crappy script, you better have awesome actors. This kinda just seemed to fail on both ends to me.

i know the feeling trying hard not to do something is extreamly hard at first you think its easy it isnt thats why soooo many cut it helps get rid of the pain

Would you be willing to share on how it was too melodramatic and unrealistic for you? I for one would think that she would be in a psch ward for a while , maybe be in group therapy. In my opinion, the therapist was too passive. I mean what Dawn was doing could have killed her. I hope ypou are not cutting any more, or at least getting help. God bless
