Pleased about Australian DVD releases but why edit?

I am extremely pleased that the Australian company are releasing DVD series 3 and 4 of AHWTB - it shows the UK companies up for not releasing 'UK' dramas!

However, I do not understand why the 6th (final) episode of series 3 had to be edited (series 2 had 8 episodes!)The DVD states the COMPLETE third series on the front cover.

SPOILER WARNING
Of-course the best and funniest scenes are always the ones that are edited out, such as, Virginia’s near-car accident rushing to Alison's labour, Megan's driving to the hospital and Alison's 'whilst in labour' tropical island 'we're having a heat wave' dream. Most significantly, an important, poignant, last appearance of Graham seeing his newborn baby daughter at Alison's home, and a scene at David's mother's house where David and Alison agree their marriage has truly been over for a long time, are both completely edited from the DVD.

Why do these 'editors' think they have the sound judgement to delete the best scenes from episodes? I love AHWTB, but am sure ‘know-it-best’ editors will also edit the extended final episode of series 4 upon the DVD’s release in September 2007.

These are all excellent points. I actually wasn't aware that seasons 3 & 4 were being released, so if nothing else you have alerted me to that! :)

I would only ask that you include a spoiler warning in your post so that you don't spoil seasons 3 & 4 for the people who read your post... I wish the editors would listen to your criticisms, though! :)

Never mind, now at last Region 2 (Network DVD) have released series 3 - and the extended sixth episode is complete! Just need series 4 now...

Oh man, I didn't know that! I hadn't seen all of season 3 so I didn't realise it was edited. Do you know if season 4 was changed at all? I just bought that today after I finished watching season 3 last week. That's so stupid and annoying... it's probably because they didn't want to make it a 3 disk release, so we have to miss out! And you never get the extras either :(

Yes sadly, series 3 and 4 (Australian dvds) both have the final extended episode six episodes edited - it is only around 20-25 edited minutes for both episodes but it is incomplete and annoying and it does state 'the COMPLETE series' on the dvd covers! However, don't worry about missing 'extras' because the UK dvd has no extras either and hasn't yet even released series 4 on dvd!

Does anyone know if the re-released DVDs set from Time Life are also edited? All four seasons are now available in Australia in separate series sets as of Jan 2010.
