What was your...

...favourite moment/episode? There were so many great parts in all the series that I find it really difficult to choose just one... but I guess the most memorable bit for me was the scene where Virginia came out to her mother. It was just so touching, and it really struck a chord with me.

What about you lot? Best moments?

Mine was when David Sarah and Virginia found Megan dead in the bath,
and David went round to see Alison,

ALYSON "You can stop sweating i;ve sorted her."
DAVID "Have you?"
ALYSON "Well someone had to, what a bloody mess!"

and Alison knew nothing about it and Virginia's on the phone to Alison.

VIRGINIA "Mum..."
DAVID "You had a row with her didn't you"
VIRGINIA "Did you kill Megan?"
ALISON (to David) "Yes I did"
VIRGINIA "Oh my god she did it!"
ALISON (to virginia) "What did you just say??"
VIRGINIA "Shes dead, in the bath, in the cottage, with the TV".

Its SOOOOOO funny, i love that show!!!

reply

lol yeah, that part was great. You gotta love the mix ups.

I have to agree that there are too many funny moments to pick from but i agree when Virginia came out to Alison was very well done n brings a tear to my eye everytime i watch it. If only my own mother was that understanding... and rich!!!

reply

I know! My mum didn't take me seriously when I told her I was a lesbian. Funny thing is, I told her whilst we were sitting outside a building in a car, just like Virginia did with Alison. :)

I liked the bit in the second series (I think) where Virginia goes round to Tamsin's house and casually say "do you fancy a shag" before walking in to the living room where Tamsin's (disaproving) parents are sitting with a cup of tea. Funny Funny.

reply

Yeah, that was hilarious!

reply

I liked the scene where Sarah has to tell her mother that she has been having an affair with Mr. Wolfenden and her mother goes into labor. Then at the end of the scene Denise asks Beth who she is.

reply

I missed Virginia's coming out, unfortunately. Guess I'll have to buy the DVDs. Are they any good?

reply

Nothing much for special features but worth it just for the episodes. Priceless.

reply

Agreed. I was so happy to discover this series and I've turned so many people I work with on to it.

It was just so well acted and so over the top. Plus Amanda Redman is f'in hot.

My favorite part is when David goes around to his mother's house to pick up some furniture and Grhram is there:

David: I've come for the sofa and sette(sp?)
Grham: What am I suppozed to sit on then?
Daivd: I don't know maybe your ass?

I found that dialogue funny for some reason, just the way Daivd said it. I also like whenever someone saids "Sod off!" Because you never hear anyone in the US say that! This is one of the best British sitcoms i've seen.

I haven't seen all the episodes, but I liked when David went into the limo service for weddings. And when he did the first one, it turned out to be a set up of the groom from Meg's business.

When the groom figures it out his buddies and him chase after David and his daughters. The three of the them being chased in seperate cars was just hilarious.

And I think it was Virginia who called him up during the chase saying how much she liked his idea :)

reply

I loved the episode at the end of series 1 where the press find out that Alison was the lottery winner. just as Alison finds out that david was shagging his Secretary. I thought the whole episode was ace.

reply

the best bit ever was the coversation that virginia and 'alison' had on the bridge before virginia falls into the river its hilarious!!!!

reply

Lol I loved that conversation as well. "You could chuck yourself under a bus, or a racehorse!!" Another of my faveourite parts is when Virginia goes to fetch the cat and almost sleeps with Megan - "I don't think I put my handbrake on!"

"People should not be afraid of their governments. Governments should be afraid of their people." V

I loved the end scene of season 2, as it's the most fresh one in my memory thanks to the DVD's. Love the argument when the daughters catch Alison & David kissing.

VIRGINIA: 'Don't talk to me like that you $hithead'
ALISON: 'Don't talk to your father that way!'
SARAH: 'Why not? You do!'
ALISON: 'I most certainly do not! When?'
DAVID: 'That's your mother you're talking to!'
SARAH: 'Oh sod off!'
DAVID: 'You sod off!
SARAH: 'Aren't you a little old to...'
ALISON: 'Excuse me!'

I think that's how it goes, lol!

reply

Lol yeah i love that bit as well. I also love the bit on the first episode of the second series, at the party-

Sarah: I feel like a beached whale.
Virginia: You look like one.
Sarah: Well you look like a dyke.
Virginia: Good.

And where Virginia is sat in the summer house talking to Megan with the cat on her lap, like some kind of James Bond villain lol.

I love the bit in the second series where Tamsin decides to tell her parents about her and virginia. I love the bit when Tamsins dad smashes a glass cabinet i think. And Virginia and Tamsin have to escape quick.

"why don't you have pudding after breakfast?"

reply

Lol yeah I love Virginia's face all the way throught that scene. She really, REALLY doesn't want Tamsin to tell her parents!

Hey is your sig from Imagine Me And You? I love that film!

I like when phil and sarah are supposed to get married and graham is supposedly dead and david and alison are discussing it and theres so much going on and virginia comes into the rrom to say 'theres been a development'. also when virginia is covered in goo from the food fight and tamsin asks what shes been doing and virginia replies 'ive been delivereing babies'. any scene with mike in it is brilliant also.

reply

I loved it in series 4 when Charlotte tricked Mike into believing Alison asked him for some excitement in her life. Mike climbs up the ladder through Alison's window, undresses and sneaks into the wardrobe.
Charlotte rushes home and upstairs and just as Alison rests baby Katie in the cot, the wardrobe door slings open. The funniest thing was seeing Alison's split-second shock reaction when she can't even gather her thoughts!

Also, love Charlotte's reaction of disgust, outside Alison's bedroom, to Mike's groaning and Alison says 'shall I rub it for you'? when really he just has a trapped nerve in his leg. Superb acting just from their facial expressions.

Funny Moments

I love it when Megan's dead in the bath tub and Sarah's trying to tell David and she's says 'Mum's meggered Murgen' LOL Make's me chuckle.

I also love when Alison's in labour. That whole scene cracks me up, lol.

When Graham goes back to Helen and she winds him up about the money. Just makes me laugh so much

Sad Moments

When Virginia comes out to her mother in the car

When David confronts Virginia at the house warming party

How are you gonna be old and wise if you were never young and stupid?

reply

I laughed so hard watching the final episode in series four today. Right near the end when Mike is nearly arrested because Sarah says to the policeman she's kissing that he stalks her mum. David just says something to Mike like "you utter tit." It cracked me up.

And the "mum's meggered murgen" line!

"You're in my thoughts every minute. I love you. I'll wait for you. Come back."

reply

lots of the funniest scenes have already been mentioned - one moment that cracked me up is in Season three when Graham and David are handcuffed together, at the hospital where Alison is going into labour, and the nurse asks 'who is the father?' and they simultaneously say 'I am!' and then glare at each other.

oh, and in season 2 when Charlotte tries to get the family onto a TV quiz show, and they're in their old house, all pretending to be a normal family (not very successfully) until they descend into bickering and shouting at each other - very funny dialogue, and sad at the same time cos they're so obviously not the happy family that poor Charlotte wishes they were.

In Series 3, when after losing the money, it's all silent as they stand outside the mansion, then David lets rip:

"You BLOOODYYY IDIOT!!!!!!!!!!!!"

then Virginia marches up:

"Don't you talk to her like that!"

lol

There are so many funny moments from this show but here are some of my favorites:

When Virginia, Sarah and Charlotte go mad in the supermarket and they find Elaine shopping there too. Later, we see Elaine walking around the supermarket with a sign stuck on her back: I shag other people's husbands (or something similar). Then when Elaine gets back to the car, her son finds the note on her back and the 3 girls drive past laughing. The son throws a bottle at their car but it lands on another guys car and smashes his windscreen!! Hilarious!!

When Sarah is in labor and she tells Virginia she is the best sister. Then a bit later, when the labor is more intense, she calls Virginia a 'stupid bi*tch'!! When the baby is born, Virginia goes out to her parents in the waiting room and Phils mum is there too. She asks what is it and Virginia says: A baby!! So funny!

In season 3, everyone is sitting around the table at Alison's house having Sunday lunch. Virginia and Tamsin tell them all that she is pregnant. Tamsin's Mum says 'What about your degrees?' They tell her that they can still finish their degrees and then she asks: 'What about the baby?'. Virginia says 'The baby isn't doing a degree'. I laughed so hard at that!!!

In season 1 I think, Alison and David are driving to the Lakes District for a weekend away. After having an argument, David says something about someone 'pissing on their own chips'. I really liked that comment and they use it again in later episodes.

This show is so over the top and hilarious. The actors are great too, I love Virginia's facial expressions...........priceless!!
