Anyone else really hate this series?

I've seen nothing but strictly positive comments, so I'm sure most people posting here will disagree.. but I really didn't like this series. I grew up playing the games, and when I saw the first couple series of Sonic, and when I saw this come out years later I thought it would be great! ... saw the first few episodes and absolutely hated it. Completely on a tangent from anything else sonic the hedgehog related.. and the music was very very lame.

Not to mention I was never a fan of the new characters they brought in. I wanted the more traditional Sonic show to return with newer episodes... not something like this.

ME NEITHER

Blame DiC and SEGA for approving this if you want to be angry.

The main writer of the second Sonic animated series (called SatAM among the fans) Ben Hurst, heard that DiC were going to start production on another Sonic show and he went to them and tried to convince them to pick up where the last show ended (on a cliffhanger), but DiC didn't bother listening to him and opted to go for this. SEGA agreed and the series happened.

Personally I don't have any beef with this series, it wasn't a masterpiece, but it was horrid. I find it a lot more enjoyable then the current Sonic toon, SonicX.

Well, altough it (does) have a message in almost every episode, it does have some HUGE flaws! Travelling in a van, I can deal with (kind of,) but what's with the instruments? Oh, maybe they're for the (annoying, idiotic) songs they sing in every single episode! Like I said, It is a good show, for kids and for extreme Sonic fans, but for none else.

Look, don't be such purists.

Those people are always stressed out (and they have no lives). It wasn't as good as the SatAm cartoon (which drew much of it's inspiration from "Star Wars" and "Blade Runner" obviously), but seriously, what Sonic-based TV show has ever been that good?

My favorite of all the series' is AoSTH. Or, at least it's the one that dosen't suck as bad, but I still loved it :P

And as for the underground series, it raped my eyes out when I first watched. I felt sorry for Sonic because of how the show worked :/

I pretty much hated the show because of the whole instrument gimmick, it's kind of fitting really considering SEGA started to put unfun and unnecessary gimmics into Sonic games after a while.

I liked this series, I thought it deserved comendation for daring to try something new. After all, unless me and my fellow countrymen could already import the Archie comic in 1993, when Sonic The Hedgehog (Or Sat-AM if you just) started, we had no idea who these new characters were!

Since STH has pretty much set the bar for what could be considered the best Sonic cartoon ever written and produced, it seems unfair to tar Sonic Underground as being 'off tangent'. If it had been produced BEFORE STH, then it probably would have been received completely differently. For about two years we were in awe of the dark, brooding and forboding storylines in the Bladerunner-esque Sonic world that was STH. We were used to funny, bright, garish cartoons that were designed to make us laugh and perk us up. When STH came along, we had never seen anything this dark and moody designed for kids. Sonic Underground went back up to the bright, funny and perky style, which most people would happily trade for the STH world.

Sonic Underground only got a bad beat because of WHEN it was released. It was a whole new universe, similar to the way that Batman Begins is a whole new film, not a prequel to the original film. The concept is different, the attitude to the character is different, the way he creates his persona is different. Even the Archie Comics included Sonia and Manic in its storylines a few times, and Sonic X now has its own spin-off Comic!

In closing, I like Sonic Underground. It was a gamble to market it when they did, we were all mourning the loss of STH, and desperate for something to fill the void. It was a difficult task to accomplish, and unfortunately they couldn't live up to most of the fans' expectations. At least we had something though!

I can understand where the guy above is coming from, I do feel resentment towards this show because it came after SATAM Sonic. However, even without that I still don't like Sonic UG very much. The whole magical, musical instruments concept comes off as a corny gimmick to capitalize on something that was popular at the time.

In conclusion, I guess I'm one of those "purists," as I find SATAM Sonic the only sonic based cartoon worth watching (including the anime series as well as the movie/ova). The comic spin-offs are garbage as well and should be avoided at all costs.

Look, I don't hate the series but, at the same time, I don't consider it a good idea.
I usually give 90's cartoons the benefit of the doubt (Hey, it's what I was RAISED on) but this just felt like yet another Sonic spin-off trying to capitalize on the franchise...
Like someone else stated, I feel Sonic was at it's BEST with the AoStH TV series. It's slapstick comedy and overall universe just payed complete homage to the game and made for a very enjoyable show. SatAM kindof pushed the envelope by giving the universe a darker tone, but still kindof maintained the essence of Sonic... As for this, this was just unbelievable. The character Sonic just DID NOT fit this universe AT ALL... It almost reminds me of another relic from the 90's called "Felix the Cat: The Movie" (If any of you remember that, you know what I'm talking about)
This "cartoon" is just thrust into an animated world with a more serious tone... it's like mixing Spongebob with Anastasia (If you understand where I'm coming from).
I mean, really... there just HAS to be a limit to how serious you can take an anthropomorphic hedgehog o_o

I am frickin' crazy because the little man inside my head breathes Corporate Thunder

This is my most hated Sonic series aside from Sonic X, the music felt like a tacked on gimmick, the voice acting REALLY needed work. (Although I did like Sleet's voice actor.) The story was lame and filled to the brim with plot holes, I have not met one Sonic fan that actually likes this show.

I think it's a really sad series.. I don't usually post when I don't like something, I just don't watch. But damn this was that bad.

The truth is out there.
