All you really need is the ending for this movie!

Really I'm serious all you need is the ending and the theatrical trailer, coming attractions and you can actually cut out the rest of the movie; most of the movie has unnecessary characters; except for the scenes that involve the father it's important to find out what happened to him and why he left; why he died. Pretending to be patriotic and joining the army as an excuse to leave your wife and kids was extremely brutal, messy, violent, and unnecessary. Did they not have the going out for a pack of smokes excuse for men to leave their families back then? Couldn't he just leave while everyone else was asleep, maybe even been honest and said, "I don't want this life, I don't want to see you anymore Grace?" Meanwhile, all this movie really needs is the ending reveal that Grace and her children are dead and have been dead, the father is dead but he can't reunite due to his dishonesty. Then you have all of these scenes with living people and ghosts which come and go but you can do without most of them as most have no impact on the ending and they take too long to give clues about what happened to the mother and kids. Watching the whole movie from beginning to end basically kills the whole magic doesn't it?
That is the same reason. That is why I have yet to watch a full episode of Miami Vice from beginning to end because between people sitting indoors at a desk in an office like an everyday thing, Don Johnson being a brat and Philip Michael Thomas basically only seen with Don Johnson would just kill the magic and take me right out of it; that's why I only watch clips of Miami Vice and music videos action scenes, boat chases etc. etc. and I never read forums for it either because that would kill it for me.
Has that ever happened before or since; or for anyone else besides just me? More importantly, has that happened with another movie or TV show?
