At what point did you know? (Spoiler)

At what point did you know the twist? I sort of knew it from the synopsis of the film LOL.

But it was obvious from the beginning; old house, fogs everywhere, the way they revealed the children, locking the rooms all the time, keeping the light out, etc.

But apart from, the film was very well executed and I still enjoyed it very much even though i was waiting the whole film for them to reveal the twist.

I started watching it thinking I wouldn't care for it. Instead I was sucked in and enjoyed it from start to finish. I had no clue what was going on but I had only seen the previews and hadn't read anything about it prior. I like being surprised by what happens whether in a movie, book or tv show.

I never saw it coming. Yes, a lot of things were suspicious, but the photosensitivity was a clever distraction of the real truth. If anything, I always thought that the servants were the villains of the story. I was hooked from the beginning so I didn't feel the need to figure out the puzzle. Kidman was unbelievable in this! Such a great performance.

Also, I remember being extremely sad at the end of it and found it hard to shake off that feeling. 9/10

reply

I always thought the movie was more sad than scary.

reply

Same here. And this is coming from somebody that scares easily. There was this tragic undercurrent throughout the film (punctuated when you see Grace crying out to Charles in the hallwway) that was more predominant than any scare factor. Although I must say near the end when the servants are slowly walking towards her and just stopping before the glass doorway was creepy.

Once they started revealing the servants as the villains, I knew it was a distraction from the real twist. So from there it as easy to extrapolate that if the servants weren't really the villains and the way they were covering the gravestones and talking about it all coming to light, I pretty much knew. Still enjoyed this movie decently, although I am not a big fan of "twist endings." I thought the acting and the Gothic ambiance were good.

I knew from the start that the servants were ghosts. But I guess we were supposed to know/suspect that all the time.
The rest was a surprise.

Its Sardo! No mister, accent on the do.

I had no idea up until the reveal lol.
But I have a somewhat acceptable excuse. I was really young when I saw this movie for the first time, so everything went over my 7/8/9(?) year old head.
This is one of those movies where I wish I could forget it and watch it all over to be shocked again.

reply

I can honestly say I didn't have a clue the whole time. When it was revealed, my friends and me all gasped in shock.

When it happened. I saw this in the theater when it first came out. Was a total surprise to me. This is one hell of a good old fashioned ghost story! One of my favorites.

Why do you care?

I did not know until it was revealed either.

The first time I tried to watch it was at night, and it scared me so much I had to stop watching it. Later I saw it on TV and was able to finish it. I loved the twist so much that I went out and bought the DVD so I could watch carefully from the beginning and enjoy all of the hints.

reply

Yep, didn't know until the reveal. Great twist, a very effective ghost story.

Keep pointing that out and eventually someone might care.
