Who was he?

I recently saw this film again. And once again it brought up all my hatred of Germans and everything about their country, basically erasing any goodwill I felt for them after hosting a successful World Cup this past summer.

Anyway, my question is who is that one german official, the jacka** who kept smiling and laughing for most his interview segments. Gave off nothing but the vibe that this was something that happened a long time ago and we can laugh about it now.

reply

Yeah, I had the same impression of him. Like when he laughed about how the terrorists started firing at the Israeli official who spoke Arabic with them. I just don't consider automatic weapons fire to be humorous. Especially when fired at a human being.

But I can't answer your question. All I know is that he was one of the big
shots in German security at the time.

But I don't think it's a good idea to hate all Germans. There are good souls in all groups.

Im glad im not the only one who was a bit disturbed by this man finding humour in such a situation,I think this man created GSG9 about a year later or at least ran it for a time, there Germanys equivalent to the SAS. His name is Ulrich K Wegener, maybe im just being oversensitive but considering that he could find humour in such circumstances wouldn't exactly put my mind at ease if I was a hostage.

reply

alright it is fine to not like this man...

but what about the hatred towards Germans? what did they do?

just forget about the 1930's and 1940's and tell me why there are such bad people?

they have beautiful women...

:)

>>> what did they do?

???

you are provoking on here, aren't you?

>>> tell me why there are such bad people?

OK. Let's give them a taste of their own medicine: they are bad people because they are blonde.

Cold, uncharismatic, and ruthless.

i cant remember which man was laughing in the film, but if it was wegener, then he was indeed the man who created GSG9 in the years following the attack.

reply

The man's name escapes me too but I was disturbed by his inappropriate laughter. So much so that the last few times he appeared on screen I fast forwarded through him so as not to get annoyed.

I was also disturbed by the soundtrack of the film which seemed to lend an inappropriate light mood to the heavy proceedings.

reply

So that's where terrorists learned that sovereign nations will negotiate with them.

reply

It was General Ulrich K Wegener.

reply

It was appalling. I just couldn't believe the attitude, it was unreal.

Ulrich K. "Ricky" Wegener -- a retired German police officer and founding member of the counter-terrorist force GSG 9. He was born in Jüterbog, Brandenburg.
