Okay, I know this has probably been asked a million times, but...

Does the entire six hour DVD have English subtitles, or is it only the three hour version that has English subtitles?

reply

Also, if I was really desperate to see the entire six hour version and it doesn't come with subtitles, would it be worth watching if I only know a few words of French, but I know the entire story because I've flipped through the book enough to know basically all the aspects of the story (and plus I read the Cliff Notes on it for a school project that I didn't have time to read the entire book for)? Any information or help or opinions would be greatly appreciated.

(My video of all of the parts of this movie that make no sense even if you HAVE read the Book multiple, multiple times, featuring homemade subtitles.)

This movie has the potential to make your brain explode with the weird inaccuracy. I've also put a recap of it online, because it was that bizarre at times. I'd say go ahead and give it a try, but having seen the six-hour version, I'd say there's a good chance you'd be slightly better off with the poorly-dubbed four-hour, seeing how, from what I've been told, that which has been cut was mind-numblingly unnecessary in the first place. And trust me, a lot of the six-hour that I was WAS mind-numblingly unnecessary.

Weird inaccuracy sums it up. It's as if they just thought it should be loosely based on the book. Kind of shocking, because you'd think a French production would try to be more faithful to a great French novelist like Hugo.
