Valjean in love with Cosette????

I loved this version, it's probably my favorite one. All of the actors seemed in character, except for Marius, but whatever.
In the book, Valjean really loves Cosette, but like a father should. He saved her and everything, and she is the only woman in his life so it's sort of special. But when he tells Marius 'Je l'aime' well, I was like WHAT?????
Seriously, why did they add that? I felt really weird.
