shareIt's been torn down, good luck finding it.
shareThe house (no running water or electricity) was burned down one night a few weeks after his crimes hit nationwide news. The locals wanted to keep someone from buying it and turning it into a real life house of horrors tourist trap. The property is now covered in pine trees compliments of the state of Wisconsin. Shortly before that the "estate" was auctioned off and people did come to buy souvenirs. Ed's pick-up and car were sold and the car made the county fair circuit as a freak show, "Ed Gein's Death Car!" The December 2, 1957 issue of Life magazine (Khrushchev is on the cover) has a photo spread and story on pages 24-31 on the Gein case. At least three books have been written about the case, one of them with the court transcripts. He died in the Wisconsin state mental hospital in 1984. A lot of people a generation later didn't know who he was including the governor who was touring the place and stopped to shake his hand.

Yes, he was being shown the progress in mental health care. Ed was working on some sort of arts and crafts project when the governor stopped to talk to him and one of the staff had to whisper in his ear who he was. Ed had put on a bit of weight from the institution's food and was somewhat pudgier than when he was arrested and tried. This was also the beginning of the end of the large mental facilities where patients were warehoused since what happened at Pennhurst.
shareDo NOT ask locals about anything Ed Gein related. They do not want anything to do with him and will react very violently if you try. Just a heads up.

Yes, as Brian said, do not ask locals about him. If you are desperate for directions, and promise to be respectful, I will give them to you in a PM.
