Steve Railsback is beep great in this!!

Though I found the movie itself to be pretty mediocre, I'm a little saddened by the total lack of recognition given to Steve Railsback, who really gives the performance of his career here. Railsback's depiction of Gein runs the gamut from wholly sympathetic to utterly skin crawling, oftentimes both at once. He's far and away the best thing about this movie and single handedly raises it above the typical serial killer exploitation movies that were popular in the late 90's - early 2000's.

I absolutely agree. He was terrific as Gein. Gein was the kind of person people didn't pay attention to for the most part, I think. He was the local oddball, a seemingly harmless dippy bachelor.

When we see what he's doing, what he really is--well, that's where the horror is.
The true horror of the film and Railsback's depiction of him is unsettling because he's so ordinary.

The serial killers, the murderers among us--whose presence and actions never ring bells, never alert people to who they are and what they are doing is what scares the hell out of me.

I also agree that Railsback's performance as Ed Gein was outstanding. He did indeed elevate this movie. He made the movie! I also thought Carrie Snodgress was very good also.

so true. I wonder if there are any photos of Gein's mother. I've looked all over but haven't found any.


