Who Likes This Movie And Who Doesnt

I personally like this movie. What Do you guys think????

reply

I like it too. He inspired TCM, and Steve Railsback is great in the roll. Not scary, but then again what true life serial killer movies are these days?

dont forget he also inspired part of the buffalo bill character in silence of the lambs along with ted bundy and others. he also inspired the original psycho movie's norman bates character. gein may have not killed as many people as dahmer or gacy or some others, but he was found not guilty by reason of insanity. the insanity defense only is used in one quarter or one percent of cases, and only succeeds in one quarter those. ed gein's story is rare indeed.

reply

I thought it was pretty good. The fact it was a true story was more disturbing than the actual movie, but that's kind of the point. BTW, if you think Ed Gein was disturbed, read about Dahmer. Most disturbing sh*t I've ever heard about (and it only happened 10 years ago).

I liked this movie too. I think alot of
people are dissapointed because he didn't run
around slaughtering teenage girls with a chainsaw..
but its supposed to be a documentary people..of
course there isn't a lot of plot development..its
based on the life of a real person...

i thought this movie was very slow, i understand it was a biography and everything but there was a lot of stuff that i didn't get. what was the reason for that naked nazi girl? just to have some gratuitous nudity so people watching it wouldn't think it was a total waste of time?

reply

I liked it.

This is the only known image of Thomas Hewitt, the man known as LEATHERFACE.

This movie is pretty much a classic example of a producer not needing a huge budget to make a decient movie. I loved the tint of the film it was shot on, I don't know much about the technical end of movie film but it definitely added to the errieness of the movie as a whole.

"what was the reason for that naked nazi girl? just to have some gratuitous nudity so people watching it wouldn't think it was a total waste of time?"

I'm not sure if this was the reason, but one of Ed's passtimes was reading pornography and books on nazi experiments.

I liked the movie. It viewed Ed Gein as he was supposed to be viewed, a deeply disturbed man, who cannot be held completley accountable for his actions. They portrayed him as sympathetic, because he was. Steve railsback did an excellent job.

I like this movie. Steve Railsback is perfect for the role. He almost looks like Ed Gein when he wears that hat.

"My Mother Was A Saint" -Ed Gein

I've never seen this film, but I want to know if it's any good. I am very interested by serial killers (dont worry, I mean likeinvestigating) I want to know If its acurate to real life, and if it was good in general and crap like that, I know a lot of what he did, which means i reasearch this crap night and day, I just would like to know how real it seems, and how acurate it is.

and also if you like researching killers, check out albert fish, he is actually quoted as the most deranged person who ever lived

reply

I thought it was ok. It wasn't the best movie I've seen but it's worth watching if you're into serial killers and such. Steve Railsback did a superb job of portraying Ed which is probably the highlight of this film. It's definitely worth a gander!

reply

I thought it was fairly good. It was a little slow, but it was quite entertaining when it got to where it was going. I just saw it for the first time since my father got it for me, great movie!

"My mother was a saint."- Eddy Gein

I bought it when it first came out with too high of expectations. So I was dissapointed. Mostly because I've read the novel it was based upon "Deviant". A far superiour and more realistic film was made in 1974 titled "Deranged". But at that time they changed all the names including Ed Gein's. But if you thought this one was good, then I suggest finding a copy of "Deranged" or reading the novel "Deviant"...Both were much better.

Actually, this movie is one of the most accurate films ever made about a serial killer. Certainly more accurate than Deranged, despite what some might say. It's not a thrillfest...but then, Ed wasn't a terribly exciting guy (apart from the obvious).

reply

I liked this movie because it shows the two sides of Gein. First as a serial, brutal killer and then as a sick human being that cannot tell what's evil or good.

Regular movie.

I thought it was a kick ass movie. I watch it almost every other day!

I'm about to watch this.

I'll get back to you in a few hours

(if I can watch Sunset Boulevard on NYE, I can tolerate ANY torture.) And that is a great movie, don't get me wrong, just depressing on NYE.

I love this movie. Steve Railsbeck did a marvelous job but I have to say that Carrie Snodgress was the highlight of the film. I think the quality of the character portrayals surpasses the script in a way. I think they seemed very natural...they could be in any small town...of course that would be a bad thing in the case of Ed. *shudder*

I think those who were expecting a horror movie did not like this but as I already knew it was more a drama than a typical slasher movie, I loved it. It was creepy cause I couldn't help feeling sorry for Ed.

I finally had an orgasm, and my doctor said it was the wrong kind

reply

it was decent. it was far better than the dahmer, bundy, and gacy films, which all pretty much came out at the same time.
