Pilot episode???

does anyone happen to know if this was a pilot episode or a stand alone movie, if it was a stand alone then why doesn't the movie give some kind of closure instead of leaving itself wide open? I didn't bother comparing the film with the literature of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde so I wasn't too disappointed that it didn't live up to any kind of preconceived idea of what the film should be.
