Why not wish he never signed the contract?

I just rewatched this movie. A lot of fun and Hurley is at her best! Anyway, was there something in the fine print that kept him from wishing that he never signed the contract? Did I miss it? If not, technically the devil should transport him back in time to the moment in her office. All he had to do was walk out.

Nobody ever reads the contract. In the fine print, it says that can't be a wish. If you do make wish "I wish I had never signed the contract", it will still count as a wish and you will have wasted it. That's what the contract says.

...at least that's what I imagine how that scenario would play out. I mean, that phone book sized contract had to say something!
