Stupid NBC

This show was brilliant and I wish it stayed on the air for a longer period of time. I think the reason why people weren't watching it was because it was on at 10 on a thursday...Most of the people I knew..didn't even hear of the show..which sucked...and of course NBC had to get rid of it because the rating were terrible. It was unfortunate because the characters were fantastic and each episode was really interesting. Kudos to everyone who was envolved in it because it was definitely something different from the usual.

I agree. I was riveted to my screen every week. And then to end it that way? Man was I pissed. GET THIS ON DVD!!!!!

I watched this when it was on here in the UK, a real shame that it got cancelled without letting us know what happened to them. I think it was shown even later here on Channel Five which was a fairly new channel that not everybody could receive.

I'm only going to say this once: stay out of Camberwick Green - Sam Tyler

I really miss this show. They should seriously just create one whole final episode to tie up lose ends.

Thought I would let you guys know...

My dad is at a convention right now (he works security at them) that John Billingsley was attending. Just about ten minutes ago my dad put me on the phone with John. REALLY sweet guy, very funny.

Anyways, before he gave the phone back to my dad, I did manage to ask if there would ever be a dvd release for The Others. He kind of sighed and said, "Long ago and far away." Then went on to say that, because it was so long ago, there probably won't be a dvd release. If NBC felt that there was an audience for it, they'd have put it on dvd already. He also said how depressing the ending was and how, when it ended they were unsure yet if it would be brought back and he wanted to know how the writers would have saved them all. lol

Just figured I'd let you guys know.

I know it's kind of late but thanks for the update Erin, although it's such a bummer! It's fantastic to see that other people really enjoyed this show! Maybe if we make a big hype about it here..(who knows) someone might want to bring it back from the dead....

My very improbable hope is that Gabriel Macht's role in the upcoming film "The Spirit" will somehow get people interested in this show. Haha what a longshot, but I won't give up hope :)

In the last episode, I remember everyone being either physically injured to the point where a few were possibly dead or emotionally crushed to the point where they probably be rocking in a corner sucking their thumb. I felt really bad for the blind guy. There was no way they were coming back from that to tie up any loose ends unless they use some time travel gimmick.

Did it start on thursdays and move to saturdays?

I know i watched the entire run of the show when it was on, but i remember
it somehow got bumped to, like, 10pm on saturday nights. No show can survive
that purgatory.

Sad, really, cause it truly was a great show with alot of potential!

I watched this on Channel 5 in U.K. in 2001/02?

Glued to the tv, even my folks watched and were 'quiet' lol probably scared.
I couldn't believe it was canned, I don't think they even showed the last episodes unless I missed it.

Were ratings that bad? it could have gone 2-3 seasons easily with good writers.

Not only the move to Saturday, but an entire month lapsed between episodes 8 and 9 - I'm guessing for "March Madness" - many viewers probably assumed it had been canceled. I remember the frustration over this - NBC has done it other times, notably with Kingdom Hospital - they never advertise that a show is being rescheduled or put on hold for whatever reason, so you never know what happened to it or find out what night it moved to unless you find out by accident. So no wonder they lose viewers - it's as if they WANTED the show to fail!
I cannot remember if somewhere it was disproved, but I still think the final episode - where the Kristen Cloke character kills them all off - was a rush job in order to make sure the show could not be resurrected. There was probably a contractual clause stating that if a character was killed off they couldn't be brought back - or some such BS move.
I too really, REALLY want to see this show on DVD - I can still picture entire scenes in my mind. This was one helluva show that should never have been canceled!!

I really loved this show too, and I was so upset when it was canceled. It seems like the majority of really great shows get canceled, and usually the problem doesn't really have anything to do with the show itself, it's the stupidity of the network (bad time slot, moved the show to a bad time slot, lack of promotion, put the show on hiatus for weeks or months in the middle of the season, etc.)

The thing I blame most is the networks stubborn insistence on using the antiquated Neilsen ratings system to determine the popularity of a show. In this day and age there has to be a better, more accurate way to determine ratings. I can't believe with the level of technology today that there isn't some way to monitor (with their permission of course) the shows people watch and record, given that most people either have cable or satellite television.
