Where is it?

This sounds like a good movie, by all accounts. But how do I get it?! I tried Netflix, no luck. I tried a blockbuster search, no luck. I found a British website that's selling the DVD, but I don't own a multi-region DVD player.

What To Do?!

I hate it when they do stuff like that! They should make all DVDs the same so anyone can watch 'em! Where am I gonna find a multi-region DVD player?! Do they sell anything like that here??

Yup, I agree with you! Luckily for us here in Asia we have access to multi-region DVD players and you can easily get them for about $45. If you know anyone from this part of the world, you can ask them to buy it for you when they come here for a vacation. That's what my cousin did--she asked a friend to buy one for her to bring home to the STates... Good luck to you!

I don't know how to figure out if my DVD player is multi-region, but it plays VCDs, so should that be some sort of indication?? I'm not sure if that would mean anything, but I thought I might ask. I don't know how to figure out if it is a multi-region DVD player. If it is, then I will most definitely buy the "One More Kiss" DVD.

Most DVD players will read VCD's as well. Have you read the manual of your player?

"Think of me, think of me fondly..."

reply

No, my player is a hand-me-down I got from my parents. It plays DVDs, VCDs, and VHS, but I don't know if it is a multi-region player. My parents lost the manual for it, so I have no way of knowing. Unless it reads it somewhere on the player itself.

if you have the name of the player and the model number, you can look it up at the manufacturer's website--try google...that might help. or if you can borrow a dvd for another region and test it on your player, and it plays, then it should be a multi-region player. if it doesn't, well, i gues that's it. my daughter tells me that at the back of the player you will find a sort of square emblem (painted on) and it would indicate the the region it is made for (for example, 1--that's for the U.S. or M, meaning it's multi-region) but it is very unlikely that it is multi-region since they won't allow that over there. try it anyway. nothing to lose. good luck.

guess what? I just saw an ad from amazon.co.uk for a multi-region player and selling for only 21 pounds. maybe you can order it and have it shipped to the states.

i just got my dvd copy of "one more kiss"...gerry butler is just gorgeous. what else can i say? and he gives a very sensitive portrayal of "sam" the ex-boyfriend in this movie who tries to help his ex, sarah, to do things she wants to accomplish before her time runs out--she's dying of cancer.

good luck!

You can buy a used copy on Amazon.co.uk and have it shipped to the US.

reply

I don't think getting hold of a DVD copy is the problem...the problem is that her player might not read the DVD purchased from the U.k.

reply

The only way to do it is to get a multi-region player. I ordered the DVD from amazon.co.uk (I'm from the Philippines) and that's the only way I can watch DVDs since I either order them from the U.S. or U.K. Fortunately for us, multi-region players are rather inexpensive in this part of the world.

Let's hope they will make it available in amazon.com in the u.S.

US is region one and Europe is region 2 and it is coded on the DVD so you might be able to watch region 2 on your computer here in the states with a free download of some regionkiller software. BUT I JUST GOT A REGION 1 VERSION ON EBAY FOR $24! I'm hyperventilating. I feel so lucky!

I posted some information about portable DVD players which are multi-region on another thread for this film. I also found this website which gives a list of DVD players you can make multi-region and lots more information besides. The website is: http://www.dvdtalk.com/rce.html The website also makes a recommendation for a PAL and NTSC player

"Q: Can You Recommend A Region- Free Player?
A: When it comes to Region-Free Player it's not just What You Buy but Where You Buy which is critical. It's important to apply the same standards which you'd use to buy any other thing online. So don't just go with any merchant because they have a region free player. If you're looking for a good region free player that can play both PAL and NTSC Discs we recommend: Momitsu DVD-V880N which also up converts discs to HD!"

It's worth checking out the website to see if your player is changeableas many DVD players are.

I think they are now coming out with Universal DVD's where it plays on all regions, I just recently noticed one of Gerard Butler's film Reign of Fire coming out soon in that format..

I just mentioned on another thread (the DVD on eBay thread), another quick and cheap solution is to just watch the DVD on your computer. I ordered my DVD on Amazon.co.uk, and then played it on my computer, using some region-free software (VLC Player, which is free!). You don't *have* to get a region-free DVD player if you are content to watch movies on your computer. Not a solution for everyone, but if you just want to *watch* the movie with minimum fuss, this is the quickest (and cheapest) way to go.

I also posted in a previous thread, but it bears repeating here.

The producers of this movie are re-releasing it soon in region 1 format. You can pre-order it on Amazon.com and it will be shipped on the release date. I'm not certain what the date it, but it soon.

This is the only way to get a legitimate region 1 copy. Anything sold on ebay right now are copies burned from a region 2 dvd.

I just heard about this movie and saw on Amazon.com it will be released on DVD for the US and Canada (region 1) June 1st. You can preorder it. I think it's only like $20.
I'd personally rather wait than buy a pirated or otherwise illegal copy or go through the hassle of finding a DVD player from a different country to watch it on.
Just hang in there! Also, his movie Beowulf and Grendel is being released in Canada (but not the US for whatever reason) June 18th, and you can get a copy of it at Amazon.ca - NOT Amazon.com...you have to get it from Canada. It will play in American DVD players as they are in the same region.
Hope this helps!

I just watched this last night and it's the Hen's Tooth version (U.S.). The movie was different than I expected and I have to say very "artfully" done. The way the sexuality was handled was beautiful. I've gotten rather weary of the voyeuristic approach to portraying sex in movies anymore and tend to avoid movies that I see as too "over the top." I'm hoping "Burns" (in the future) might be handled in a similar vein... it would certainly be refreshing. :-)

Thought provoking film. I came away pondering the nature of people and how we can develop tunnel vision (to how our actions hurt others) when we are driven by passion and need. Each character in their own way demonstrated both selfishness and nobility... the way people really usually are. I plan to watch it again soon to decide how I feel about it. :-)
