Is this film available in the West?

It would be fascinating to compare it with the famous 1968 version with a script by Mishima. The 1962 version actually got better ratings on this site than the remake.

I was just looking up this film because it's coming on Turner Classic Movies tonight, at 2 am Eastern time. I'd never heard of it. If you can't find it anywhere, tonight's your chance.

When I was your age, television was called books!

I just caught the last 30 min of this on TCM...not bad! The name Machiko Kyo rang a bell, and sure enough, she played the maiden temptress in Rashomon.

Same here, I caught the last 45 minutes and it was great! I wish I could have seen the entire film.

I was flipping channels during the middle of the night and stumbled upon this in good ol' cable fashion. I had no idea what I was watching but the dance numbers and color changes and absolutely batty style hooked me. I fell in love with this movie and I'm surprised to find out a remake was done only six years later and it's the more famous version! I hope there's a pretty good dvd somewhere.

It's available on Hulu Plus, under their Criterion titles. I watched it yesterday and found it rather entertaining.
