Why did this show end after one series?

I don't get why this show stopped after one series? It was extremely popular, the fact that they kept repeating it demonstraits this. I don't know anyone who when asked "do you remember this show" they don't saythat show with the kick ass song.

It's as though the whole thing was written to end, almost like a one off. I say this because of the final episode all of the main charaters are playing hockey together, as a team, as friends etc and it's totally uncharacteristic i.e Beef and friends normally bully the other guys but in the final episode there is none of that.

Also the final show has all the characters group together and say "The End" and wave to the camera/us. It's quite sad :( it's basically the guys who made the show saying goodbye/thanks to the auidence. I've never heard of a show deliberately writting such an ending unless they actually knew it was going to end, be the last episode ever made.

13 episodes was way to short for such a cleverful and funny show :(

Here is a link to the last shot I was talking about

It's actually quite simple. CBS didn't see the series as having been successful enough to justify ordering another season.

In other words, it was cancelled. CBS chose not to renew the show for a second season, so no more episodes were made.

It's popular in the cult memory, but apparently CBS thought it didn't do well enough in its original run to continue it past the initial 13 episodes.

I just bought these on DVD and watched them on Saturday morning until I watched them all. So Nostalgic. It really took me back to when I was 6 years old, with my whole life still in front of me, choices I might regret yet to be made, missed oppotunites not yet missed. A little depressing actually. That final scene where they all waved kind of made me sad, because it was like "Thanks for looking back, now back to you're own time" :(
Oh to be able to do it all again, knowing what we know now!

Laugh it up, fuzzball.

I hear you, man. I get misty thinking about these old Saturday morning cartoons and the good times all those years ago when the adult world seemed so far far away.

This show is on DVD now? Great, thanks for telling me! I will get it as soon as possible; I liked the episode with the alien hustler (drug dealer) who got Doyle hooked on that wierd stuff.

CBS really should have given this series a full season, 13 episodes nowhere near enough for a show of this scope, way ahead of its time and far better than other shows that have run for years

A massive shame

That's how a lot of cartoons were back then. If they didn't immediately become sensations and the talk and obsession of all kids then they usually only received about 13 episodes. I'd say the makers knew going into it that they probably wouldn't be making more. It was rare for cartoons back then to get second seasons. The only one I can think of that did was The Smurfs.

Remember the magic words: "Please", "Thank you" and "Step off bitch!"

Cartoons were basically advertisements for kids to ask/whine to get toys...etc. Galaxy high had no toys produced. So there was no reason to keep paying animators...etc. Waste of time from the studio's perspective. Only produce what can turn a profit re tie in merchandise.

The Smurfs, Gummi Bears, Muppet Babies, The Real Ghostbusters, Dungeons & Dragons, Captain N, Gem and the Holograms, Transformers, and G.I. Joe all went on for multiple seasons.

Yes and think how much related material is selling on ebay (not just the episodes) about these series and/or anything related to the brand/product.

Galaxy High had virtually no toys...etc to promote it. That's the real reason it ended after one season. Most of these cartoons were 30 second product advertisements.

No tie in toys, not profitable to continue producing. Us recording episodes on a VHS did not make money for the studios.
