I thought this movie was pretty good.

I liked this movie... the characters were cool and there were some genuinely creepy moments, especially the ghost scenes.

Why is this movie so hated?

I don't know. I like it also. I wish they would have spent more time on Jeff though. Why was he in the hospital? They could have elaborated on that more.

On the DVD bonus features, there is a 44 minute short titled The Shadow of the Blair Witch. Supposedly, this short aired on the Sci-Fi (SyFy) Channel about 5 days before this movie got released to theaters, similar to the original film, which had another short air on Sci-Fi 19 days before it went theaters, titled The Curse of the Blair Witch. With the Blair Witch Project, you really didn't need to watch The Curse of the Blair Witch without being totally confused. With this movie, I implore people they NEED to watch the Shadow of the Blair Witch before watching this movie.

In The Shadow of the Blair Witch, we find out that Jeff suffered from schizophrenia, and at age 18 supposedly abducted a neighbor's baby, which led to him spending years in a mental hospital, which is what we're shown in the beginning of the movie. It's kind of an interesting watch. You can find it on this link: https://vimeo.com/109251556

I liked it, too. It's even better if you view those characters as a satire of early 2000s popular culture as well (the cynical goth, the hippy wiccan etc.), although I realise this may well not have been the intent.

I liked that they took it in a different direction and played with the mythology a little bit. It wasn't as good as the first film, but as far as blatant cash-ins go, it was pretty good.

I love this film! Its extremely clever & genuinely creepy.
I adore the first film too, but this one is more 'mainstream'. I don't understand the hate for it; all I can think is that people hate it because its not filmed in the same style as the original.
That would have been a HUGE mistake of the filmmakers.

I guess as a stand alone film it could be an OK "rainy Saturday" kind of thing, but as a sequel it didn't fit well.

I just tried to watch it again, haven't since it came out, thought maybe it wasn't so bad, but honestly I only got about 15min in, not saying it's downright horrible, just nothing about it made me want to keep going.

I enjoyed both movies, this one was better than the original I still the first one but I think I'm in the minority on that

FINNALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!

Agree with xIIxIx, in my opinion blair witch 2 is the best chapter in the blair witch trilogy, is very different thant the first and the third, not mockumentary (thank God) and last but not least this movie has a very good soundtrack with songs by Marilyn Manson, Rob Zombie, Godhead, Project 86 and more

Atmospherically speaking, I've always found this film terrifying. There is something about it that gets under the skin. For that reason alone it's a good watch.

I also think it was an interesting conceptual move, and a unique way to approach a sequel. It was different. The studio interfered with the final cut quite a bit so we don't really know what Berlinger's original vision looked like, but from what I've read, it was quite different in tone.

Yes, I think this is a good movie as well and I have no idea why it's so hated. I think the characters are fun and interesting, the ending is great, and really a trip. I love how the Blair Witch manipulates reality in all three movies. Each one has its own strengths and I can't think of many bad things to say about any of them.
