Crimson Rivers is Terrific

First, watch the DVD, in original French with English Subtitles.

If you forgive some its writing/plotting, and just enjoy the ride, this is a super, super film.

Reno and Cassell have great cinema chemistry. I will grant some troubling issues with the writing, but as a murder/mystery, it has great action, thrills, really good dialogue, and an interesting, if not perplexing, plot.

For its genre, this is good film.

Love watching Reno ACT, instead of struggling with his English.

I liked the movie. I had a hard time understanding the dubbed English dialogue because the sound quality of the film is poor. I bought the DVD. I watched it a second time. Liked it more. However, the English captioning does not match the dubbed English dialogue. If I watched it in French and didn't speak English, I wouldn't have known what a poor job they did translating the story. Let the viewer and buyer beware...

Saw it for the first time today and thought it was really good. The plot's a bit out there, but I don't care! I enjoyed it.

Wow! I wrote this five years ago!
Yes, I agree. It was an enjoyable movie, on a par with American cop/suspense/slasher/psycho flicks.
I'm glad you reminded me about it.
I think I'm gonna watch it tomorrow on my day off.

For an English-speaking audience, the best way to watch this DVD is with French language and English subtitles. The dubbing of French to English was done badly.

A second viewing of this movie after reading the basics of the story on this board will help a lot with understanding just what is going on. This story is complicated. Crucial scenes are often given very short screen time.

Agreed about watching it in French. Dubbing is never very good, anyway.

Missing Jean Reno in his mother tongue would bye a cryin' shame, too.

I watched Crimson Rivers after seeing "The Professional". Reno's acting style is great, along with his voice. He's a very talented actor in a modern-day film noir setting, like Crimson.

The English dubbing is done by Reno and Cassell. Reno sounds okay but Cassell doesn't sound anything like himself in English. Couldn't watch the thing with the English soundtrack so I just switched over to French.

Because life is just too short for all the stupid people.

Better to let the actors and actresses do their thing on screen and not struggle with speaking English by dubbing. We can read the English subtitles easy enough.

Stupid!?! I never called you stupid! To call you stupid would be an insult to stupid people!

Les Rivières pourpres is still one of my favourite thrillers. The scenery, the music, the atmosphere, the actors ... It's great! I still watch it a 2-3 times every year.
