Hattie Jacques

Why did the producers miss her from the film, was she a friend of Sid James or did she avoid him?

Also remember in order to use anyone in something like this, you must have permision from them/there estate. This may explain it. It may also explain why "Bernard Bresslaw" was used in a scene that should have been "Terry Scott".

He also played the Bernard Cribbins role in Spying!

You don't have to have permission from the real person in order to put them in a film. Joan Sims refused to be involved in Cor Blimey, but she still appears in fictional form.

I assume they left Hattie out ceause there were already enough "chatacers" int eh film. Joan and Hattie would have had to have shared the female role between them. Also, given Hattie's recognisable form, it might have been difficultt o get away with giving her just a couple of lines.

I think the Cribbins/Bresslaw/Scott roles were all rolled into one to make it easier for storytelling. That way, just one character appears onscreen and has a fari amount to do, instead of a brief appearance from Crib/Bress/Scott and time given over to explaining who each of them is.

All of these decisions were taken for simplicity of storytelling rather than anything else.

You could also suggest that having a character like Hattie, who liked Sid, sticking up for him may not have worked for the angle this biased show was going for. While i find this show entertaining and have watched it a few times.. it should be seen as just that 'entertainment'. It has inaccurate 'facts', made up scenarios and flat out lies. From what i understand it is based on the accounts of 'Babs' who, lets face it, is known for being a bit of a liar. She's not only slagged of most of her carry on stars (after they passed away..) but also most people who she has worked with... and isn't generally liked backstage on most her 'acting' jobs. I would trust a spirit level on a waltzer more than her side of this story. While most people knew Sid liked the ladies, I would honestly say most who knew him would disagree with the way he is portrayed in this TV movie.
Sorry for typos. I am typing on a phone.

Babs wouldn't have slagged Kenneth Williams; she was a very close friend of his.

Except for when she called him a "Neurotic, self obsessed prick." about 3 weeks after he passed. Then a few years back (after leaving eastenders) she said (this isn't a direct quote but just the jist of her comment)"He was okay.. he wasn't a friendly man, he was hard to be around. His moods would change on a penny.... I couldn't stand when he would call me up. I would sit there for hours listening to him drone on about his problems. I miss him to a point but im glad of the peace".

I'd personally never say that about a close friend who died especially to the press.
She said similar things about Frankie Howard, Charles Hawtrey, Terry Scott and (i think..but don't quote me on this last one..) Bernard Breslaw.
She is extremely two faced. Can't stand her.
