Tortilla question

is it a corn or maize tortilla?

reply

Corn and Maiz are the same thing, Corn in English and Maiz in Spanish.

Well, in the UK maize is what Americans call corn, and corn is what Americans call grain.

reply

In America,Americans call corn...corn and grain...grain.

Well, the topic was "corn" or "maize" and since in the US those are synonyms, it seemed that there was some background vocabulary confusion going on. And yes, that WAS the topic: problems deciding which word--"corn" or "maize"--applies to the tortillas in the movie.

reply

It is a wheat flour, or "harina" (in Spanish) tortilla.

reply

Confirmed. It's a flour tortilla. Corn torts are more yellow, aren't scortched on a griddle like those ones in the movie.

It would. not. have. workded. with corn tortillas.

reply

It's flour or corn. And Americans don't call corn grain. Are you retarded? Man I want some creamed grain...maybe some grain on the cob...yaaaa...

reply

How about some popped grain?!?!?!? Ask for some of that next time at the movies!

reply

No, I'm not retarded. What's more, I know how to read, something you might want to work on. In the UK "corn" is what Americans call "grain". That is true. What Americans would call "creamed corn", Brits would call "creamed maize".

You need to insult less and learn more.

The original question is flawed. There are 2 types of tortillas that are historically part of the diet consumed by Mexicans and Chicanos. They are corn and flour. Maiz y harina. You would be repetitive in your question. Corn or maiz? They are the same. The question should have been, "Are the tortillas in the movie, corn or flour?" You could also ask, "Are the tortillas, maiz or harina?"

Since I am in the movie, I can tell you that the tortilla in the movie is made of flour, (harina). You can easily tell by the way the tortilla is rolled in the movie. Flour tortillas are rolled with a rolling pin. Corn tortillas are hand patted and pressed, or pressed by a simple pressing device used for this purpose.

Now for the extreme semantics lover, it should be noted that the Spanish name for an omelette, is tortilla. All 3 items have the similarity of being round and flat. Go see the movie and you'll see what I mean.

I think the original question was legitimate...the person did not know what the dif...if any between corn and maize was...yeah it is the same...but what I thought was interesting was the comment"In the UK Americans call.....etc....so what I am reading here is when Americans go to UK they change the name of things...b/c in American we call corn...corn, and grain...well, grain. I thought that was soooo funny, the UK comment I am not calling any one ignorant or any names! I seen the movie and I liked it and recommended it to alot of ppl who seen it as well and liked it too!!

That is why it was legitimate...they didn't know it was the same thing.

from a mexican: Tortillas are made of corn if you have the time or corn flour(or others kind of flour). It is not the american yellow corn, its a bigger white one.

Most are made of corn flour since machines can make a lot and people too, just by adding water....but of course most people not make their own tortillas, nobody has the time.

There are also natural colored tortillas made of different colors of corn (red, gray)....

It was a flour tortilla, and there's nothing like a fresh tortilla off the comal with butter. Yes, they do take a lot of time to create, but they're surely "Tortilla Heaven."

Why ain't you at the garden party you heathen?
