Filmed in Montreal, yes or no??!!

So, I would like to know...
Was it really filmed in Montreal, or did it happen like in TAKING LIVES, that it was filmed in Quebec City, alledging it was in Montreal?

I'd like someone to please clarify this for me, cause I'm confused.
By the way, I fell in love with the visuals of the locations.
Thanks.

It was filmed in Montreal, I was there at the time of it being filmed.

Cigarettes and coffee, man. That's a combination.

It's unfortunate that when a movie is as stale as The Score, one might lose interest in visiting the place or places it where it was filmed. I just got the impression that, although Montreal may very well be beautiful, Frank Oz didn't know how to direct a crime thriller--and he didn't know how to film Montreal either.

reply

Stale??? I know The Score is slow paced but thats the whole POINT!! It has to be like that to set up the tension of the whole heist!

reply

I know that, but the type of story has been done many times and Oz's film doesn't add anything fresh to it. If you still think the movie is fresh in its execution and story-telling, then cool!

personally i liked the movie alot. and it made me want to visit if not LIVE in montreal. i hope they get to make more gangster movies in the city. de niro really gave credibility to the role of an aging thief and added class and sophistication to the district. if it wasn't him who portrayed the character, i wouldn't think that i'd watch the movie even if it was filmed in a beautiful place like montreal.

It's filmed in Old Montreal. Brando's restaurant is on Notre Dame Street. It is now a book store. The last scene is filmed in the port of Montreal.

some was filmed in toronto

reply

Uhh.. no. Nothing in this movie was filmed in Toronto.

reply

Definitely, I live in Montreal and recognize my city...all the shots done in Montreal, especially the old city and the old port downtown ... many shots of the skyline and the river.

Hope you enjoyed.

reply

Definetly filmed in Montreal in the Old Port.

The Actual Customs house was used and the entrance Ed Norton uses is around the back and really disused. The part where they meet the hacker is filmed on the islands that overlook the old Port.

I think the Jazz club entrance is really a gate to a resturant and the Market he goes to is really Marche Bon Secour (might have spelt it wrong) which has boutiques in.

winter would be cool time to set a movie there.

Brando is not the owner of a restaurant in this movie. Maybe it is De Niro´s Jazzclub, you have mentioned. But this is not located on Notre Dame Street.

Nicks Jazzclub: 421 Rue Saint Paul Est, Montreal,

Nicks Flat: 266 Rue Saint Paul Est, Montreal,

Customs House (main entrance): 400 Place d´Youville, Montreal,

Customs House (backyard mainly filmed): 140 Rue Normand, Montreal,

Nick is changing his car after the first coup in the movie:
Pont de la concorde ( under this street )

First contact between Jack and Nick:
Rue du Marche Bonsecours and Rue Saint Paul Est

It's been almost 4 years since I placed this original posting. Many things changed since then.

I moved to Montreal in 2007, and lived there for 2 years; then, I had the chance to pinpoint all the places and locations depicted in the movie, and see it so differently. I loved the city!!

reply

Yes, I watched it last night and the credits state it was filmed there.

If you'd like to see another crime caper filmed in Montreal, check out Heist with Gene Hackman.

I have found most of the locations on my website, but I haven't been able to locate Max's mansion. It is unmistakably located in MTL too (you can tell by the architecture of the buildings around).

Nick's workshop was located right in the neighborhood where I grew up! In fact, that building used to be a hairdressing salon where my mom went when I was a kid!

Thanks so much for posting this. I love movie location photos, now & then.

I also think The Score is one of those films where the setting becomes a part of the film.
