Maricon
What is El Nene saying to the guy in the restroom right after "maricon"? It sounded like "imatido," but I wasn't familiar with the word.

Thank you Iwanex, but what about the other epithet he used after maricon? What word was that?
shareSorry it has taken me so long to see your post. The word you are looking for is "invertido." In English, it means literally "invert," althought the subtitle in the film has it as *beep* That is probably because the word "invert" is no longer used much as a negative reference. It was popular in the time of Kinsey as a semi-clinical term and a kind of slur.
shareThank you so much, B24!

In Argentina, ''Maricón'' means ''Gay''. When we a say a gay, we call him ''Marica'' o ''Maricón''
shareNot only in Argentina, that term applies to pretty mucho almost all of Latin America (is SO common to hear it here in Mexico).
shareI'M sorry but I dont call my gay friend like that, I call him by his name. Do not say that we all argentinian CALL someone who is gay 'MARICÓN' unless you are a sort of caveman.

Still, 'maricon' is a lot better than 'puto'. By this point maricon is a (relatively) soft word, would be the equivalent of 'queer'.
shareIn any case, 'maricón' (or 'marica') has a negative connotation. Anyone who calls another 'maricón', 'puto', 'trolo' and other sorts of hateful words, here in Argentina, is clearly being disrespectful.
shareAnyonw who uses those words is being disrespectful, regardless of geographical location. Still, that doesn't stop a lot of people from using those words, unfortunately.
shareI just wanted to point out that even when the credits roll you can read such slurs as: "Maricon en el baño", "puta 1", and so on...
shareI was always told "puta" is translated as the c-word referring to female anatomy [also the p-word in English]
This is why calling a male a "puta" is such an insult as you are calling him a c-word and implying he is effeminate therefore gay etc
