Best Christmas Movie Ever! Seriously!!!!!

I only saw this for the first time about two years ago pretty much by mistake, (I was waiting for something else to come on and begun idly channel flicking) and may I say that this is one of the finest, funniest most original Christmas films I have seen in years and it has now become one of my festive must-watch movies (along with It's A Wonderful Life, Gremlins and The Snowman). Congrats to Matt Groening, Drew Barrymore, Joe Pantoliano, Dan Casstelaneta, Billy West, Katy Segal, Michael Stipe et al for bringing us this seriously bright, funny and charming Christmas movie. Olive's opening song is just sooo damn catchy. I find myself humming it well into New Year.
I can't believe that there are no other comments on this film. Please, if anyone reads this, just E-mail or something to let me know that this film actually exists and wasn't just the hallucinatory product of some bad eggnog.

PS. BRING BACK MY BELOVED FUTURAMA!!

Heck Yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Terrific. Oh just to tell you that if you get Cartoon Network Furutama is on nights on their Adult Swim block. Just go to http://www.cartoonnetwork.com and navigate to Adult Swim. It may be a little hard to find because they want to keep it seperate from the kids area.

I don't know about the best ever, but it is one of my absolute favorites. Really only "Christmas Story" is the only other thing the can be both irreverently cool, yet heartwarming at the same time. That's a hard damn thing to do.

To be absolutely fine for the kiddies, yet not be BOOOOOOORRRRRRIIIINNNNNGGGG.

It manages to do it. One fine job for the writers, the voice talent, and the animators.

it's a great, warming christmas flick everyone can enjoy

I'm sorry, but are you honestly comparing this to "A Christmas Story" and saying that this is better? I believe in personal opinion, but no holiday movie, or at least no holiday movie from the past 30 years or so, can beat "A Christmas Story". The old classics (It's A Wonderful Life) are their own category.

It is one of my favorites. It's one of the few occasions I can think of in which a movie/TV special based on a book is better than the book that inspired it. It had a nice storyline, the Postman was a good villain (Both because his concept was original yet believable since I could certainly understand a postman being annoyed with all the extra mail he has to deliver on Christmas, and also just because of Dan Castellaneta's typically brilliant voice work), the characters were all cool and likable, and the animation was certainly interesting. My mom's an elementary school teacher, and I recall one year around Christmas time, she showed it to her class, and she told me they all applauded at the end of it.

I wouldn't say it's better than A Christmas Story, but that and Olive are 2 of the best things on TV at xmas.

It's certainly a classic among the modern Christmas animation movies. Most of the Christmas animation must-see shows for me are all the old ones from the 60s and 70s. Among the other relatively new Christmas shows I like are:

The Polar Express
Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer

There was also one with Casper the Ghost in it that I liked but forgot the name of.

reply

Yes! Olive is probably my favorite. I love its style, and the voice acting is all so good/cute and if I ever get a dog I'm definitely naming her Olive <3

I noticed that you've been saying 'amigo' a lot lately. That's very Spanish of you.

reply

Casper? I don't know how something like that has lasted through all the political correctness over the years. A cartoon about the ghost of a dead child? A Christmas special to boot? That just even sounds wrong.
