Cinematic Poetry

Literary film-making gets very little respect. Most audiences are not patient enough to allow the course of the film to develop, especially if the pay-off is delivered in terms of emotional affect and not point-clinching action. This is a subtle, and in many ways beautiful film, but it is definitely for a niche audience. High praise for Leonard and Thurman for expressing depth of character not evident in their other performances. It is also amazing to see what Kristofferson can do with good writing and good direction. Bears watching again, just as great poetry should be read more than once.

"Do you see any children here for me to defile with my damns?"
