the poem

does anyone know where i can find a written copy of the poem that was read in this film?

reply

No I am sorry, I have been looking all over the internet for it, but no luck. I guess it must be in the stage play by Nicole Burdette called "Last Word on Paradise".

Since I think the poem read between Audrey and Val, is eloquently romantic, I will try to write it down, when I tape the move in beginning of august. If you haven't found it by then, I will get back to you, and post it here.
Seems IMDB's forums, is getting to be the most valueable part of the site lately.

I want to be a lost poem in a strangers coat pocket,
That coveys the importance of you,
To assure you of my desire, To assure you of dreams
I want all possibilities of you in writing
I want to give you your reflection
I want your eyes on me, I want to travel through a lightness breeze
And I want everything you wanted before to follow us like a trail behind me
I want never to say good bye to you, even on a street corner or on the phone,
I want...

I want so much i am breathless. I want to put my power into a poem to burn a hole in you pocket so I can sew it.
I want my words to scream through you, I want the poem not to mean that much.
And I want to contradict myself by accident, and for you to know what I mean
I want you to be distant, but for me to feel you close.

I want endless days when its day, and nighttime never to end when it's night
I want all the seasons within one day
I want the sun to set before us, and to come up in front of us
I want water waists, and I want to be drengthed by the rain up to our our ankles,
With holes in our shoes

I want to think your thoughts because their are mine
I want only what is urgent with you
I want to get in the way of the barriers
And I want you to be a tough guy, when you're suppose to
And I want you to be total dory when you suppose to
And I want you to be tender, like you do already

And I want us to have meet for a reason
I want that reason to be important
And I want it to be bigger than us, and I want it to take over us.
I want to forget
I want to remember us

And when you say you love me,
I don't want to think you really mean New York city
And all the fun we have in it

And I want your smile - always
And your grimaces too
I want your scar in my lips
I want you dissapointments in my heart
I want your strenght in my soul,
And I want your soul in my eyes,
And I want to believe everything you say,
And I do
And I want you to tell me what's best, when I don't know

And when you're lost - I want to find you
And when you're weary,
I want to give you steeples, cathedral thoughts, colusseum dreams
I want to drag you from the darkness,
And kneel with you, Exhausted with the blinding light - wearing on us.
And..

Well that is it, as far as I can grasp it, but since english is not my mother tongue, there still can be some mistakes.
I feel that this poem, in its simple form, coveys the feeling of what we want love to be. Picking out situations that we actually feel, but soon after forget, because we think them silly thoughts.
I am very grateful, somone has taken time to write them down.

Does anyone know who wrote the poem? I've heard it's called "It doesn't get better than this" but I'm not sure... The only other writing credits for the movie are for the poem "Seasons in Hell" by Arthur Rimbaud and the poems "Under Milk Wood" and "Lament" by Dylan Thomas. So I'm thinking Nicole Burdette wrote it. I wish I could find an official script for the movie. The only place I've seen the poem online are on this thread and in peoples' online journals. It's such a beautiful poem.

Although it is not listed in the credits I did find this posted on a journal site. (uniform.nothing.ca/archives/2003_07.html) Gives the impression that Rosario Dawson actually wrote it but totally uncertain.

I believe it's called "It Doesn't Get Much Better Than This" and it was written by Nicole Burdette. That's what Hawke says in the director's commentary.
