Hey Kanto,

Thanks! Nice name, btw. It's always nice to know people are reading these. I think that if you approach any of these flicks straight, ignoring the whole film school "this is cinema and that is not" stigma, there's no way to deny the sheer technical and artistic skill on display. Do you have any other recommendations? Note that we do welcome guest reviews.

You know, to be honest, I haven't seen any of those yet. I was considering picking up Blind Beast at the Tower closing sale, but I kept waiting for greater price drops. As such, I waited too long. I haven't checked out any of the Fantoma releases yet, but I have been meaning to.

Goke, eh? I'll definitely check that out as well.

PanikHouse, Criterion and the like are actually pretty good. Image and Kino sometimes have good films, and Discotek is getting better as well. You might also want to check out sites like superhappyfun.com to obtain some of the more hard to find items.

Hey -can you tell me how graphic this film is in terms of violence? The description on the DVD suggests some really horrific female torture. I generally have a strong stomach but just wanted to check before watching the movie. Thanks!

Hey Gemden,

There's a rape sequence that's pretty unsettling, but it's done in a way where you experience it almost from the main character's perspective. Most of the other violence is girl on girl violence, or Sasori getting revenge on oppressive males.

My advice? Check it out, but have your remote handy. If you find it to be too much, just fast forward a bit. At least that way you get to see her get her vengeance :)

Question: The song with the lyric "Her song of vengeance", is that the title of the song? Is it "THE FLOWER OF CARNAGE"? I need to know!!! Thanks!

Oh, sorry about that. There are actually a number of Meiko Kaji songs in the films, but yes, the one you are looking for is the Grudge Song, or Urami Bushi.
