Evidence ( spoiler warning)

I never understand when Frank touched the gun when he found it in the killers house. Didn't they need James' prints for evidence?

It's important that guns or other evidence not be touched when their origin is ambiguous. Because of the situation in which the gun is found, it will either be matched directly to the bullets removed from the three victims shot and be confirmed as the murder weapon, or it won't and any fingerprints on it won't matter. If the gun is dusted for prints at some point and two sets are found, one of which matches the ex-detective, they will be easily explained regardless.

Having not worked as a detective for what, about 2 years, maybe Frank forgot one of the basics. In the same scene, Tim, who has been on a "sabaatical(sp?)" for several months, doesn't have his handcuffs, and the suspect says something like "you don't need them" because he has no intention of trying to run. Also, when the guy opens the door, Bayliss shows his badge and introduces Pembelton as his partner, but he can't refer to him as "Detective" because he no longer is (technically).
